The Android 4.4.3 KitKat update is inching closer to being official after tons of speculation, and now it seems that after weeks of waiting the Nexus 5 may be up first. Followed by the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and eventually even the Nexus 10 tablet.

Last year on Halloween Google announced the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat for all Nexus devices. Then over the course of a month it arrived for the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, the Nexus 10, and a few Google Play Edition handsets, and it looks like the next update is coming possibly as early as today.

While we’ve been hearing reports and rumors speculating that an update would be here sometime soon, today Sprint has reportedly outed the details a bit premature. Stating the Nexus 5 will receive an update starting today which will enable a few Sprint-specific features, and a new version of Android many expect to be Android 4.4.3 KitKat.

Nexus 5 Problem

Sprint confirmed the details this weekend, but didn’t give enough information for users to fully know what to expect. The update for the Nexus 5 will be enabling Spark (4G LTE) for Sprint Nexus 5 users, as well as “Misc Android updates” which is where Android 4.4.3 KitKat will come into play.

Google’s latest Android 4.4 KitKat update arrived in November, but quickly saw multiple updates to fix small issues, camera problems, and security concerns, and we’re now all on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The last update was expected to fix major camera issues, but we’re hearing from a few sources Google has plenty in the works for this pending Android 4.4.3 KitKat update as well. A slew of bug fixes and security patches should all be on board.

Back in late March was the first concrete details about Android 4.4.3 KitKat for the Nexus 5, which was accompanied by comments suggesting it would arrive within the next 1-2 weeks. At this point the two week mark has passed, but Google could be gearing up to release this latest Android update for all devices this week.

Android 4.4.2 still has its share of issues which have been widely covered for months and months, so the news that an update could be here as soon as later today is extremely great news for all Android users, not just those with a Nexus 5 on Sprint. Google usually rolls out major software updates such as Android 4.4.3 to their latest flagship, which is the Nexus 5, and we can expect it to possibly start on Sprint and roll out to all Nexus 5 users from any carrier over the next few weeks.

That isn’t all though. Users can also expect Android 4.4.3 KitKat to arrive for the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and Google Play edition handsets all within the next 2-3 weeks. This of course, is only if the update today is in fact Android 4.4.3 KitKat.

The video above is just one big problem, of many, that owners have experienced on Google’s latest flagship Nexus 5 smartphone running Android 4.4.2 KitKat, so an update is needed. We’ve seen call bugs, users that are stuck on Android 4.4.1 that can’t update to 4.2, and of course all the camera issues mentioned above.

Google has promised a number of improvements and fixes over on the Google support forums, but as usual hasn’t disclosed any details regarding what owners can expect, or when to expect it. This, is one of the main reasons that Sprint confirming the update today is such big news. Google usually keeps all software updates a secret until they’re ready and officially rolling out, but this week could be different.

We’ve heard the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update for the Nexus 5 (and others) has been in what Google calls the “dogfooding” stage being tested over the past few weeks, and if all the reports and details from multiple outlets and Sprint are accurate, it could finally arrive today.

While many smartphone owners on Verizon and around the globe are still awaiting the update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat for the Galaxy S4, Note 2, LG G2, and many other smartphones, it appears another is about to arrive and put them behind even further.

If previous releases are anything to go by, we’ll see Android 4.4.3 KitKat for the Nexus 5 today on all versions, quickly followed by the same update to the Nexus 4, and both the original and new 2013 Nexus 7 tablets. In the past Google has delivered updates to all current Nexus devices over the course of a week, and on occasion a little longer, and within a month all owners of the Google Play edition HTC One, HTC One M8, Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia, or even the LG G Pad Google edition should see it arrive as well.

For now this is still just speculation based off official update details provided by Sprint, so the minute we learn more regarding the Nexus 5 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update we’ll be sure to add any additional details and information. If all goes according to plan this should arrive before the end of the day. As a reminder, updates are sent out in stages, and not everyone will get it on the first day.

Still not able to receive any update on my Nexus 5. I am facing the quick battery drainage problem in my Nexus 5 device form last 2 months due to continuous use of camera based apps in the background. I always put my phone thrice in a day on qi charger to keep it fully charged. I even uninstall Skype from my handset as some rumors are there that the problem arises due to bug in Skype. Hope they will launch it soon otherwise I have to look for another alternative.
