Nexus 5 2015 vs Nexus 5: What We Know So Far

The original Nexus 5 was a good looking phone, but it was also extremely plain and boring. It was a slab of black plastic, a matte black design on the rear (eventually white and red came out) and it had black ceramic power and volume keys. It was basically a very minimal and unassuming black brick.

That isn't a bad thing, but it wasn't what anyone would consider a "premium" device to take on Apple or Samsung.

In 2015 though, that could finally change. We're hearing Google's new Nexus 5 will have a beautiful all aluminum or metal frame around the edges, with the same curved or "chamfered" edges as the Galaxy S6. However, they'll keep the same matte black plastic on the rear to keep the design in-line with the Nexus family. One leak suggested the power button with an integrated fingerprint scanner will be on the back, similar to LG's popular devices, as well as a dual LED flash and a laser auto-focus around back as well.

Google's going for a more premium look and feel, without having to make sacrifices elsewhere. It might not be a Galaxy S6 or an iPhone 6, but it doesn't need to be.
