Nexus 5, Nexus Tablet Renders Showcase New Looks

Published

on

A new set of sharp-looking renders show a Nexus 5, the rumored Nexus 11 and a Nexus 8 tablet which would replace the Nexus 7 2 with a larger screen to better compete with the iPad mini.

With new Nexus rumors rolling in saying LG is tapped to make the Nexus 5 and a possible Samsung Nexus 11 tablet on the way we wanted to share one designer’s take on what the new Nexus family could look like.

While all the latest rumors point to a Nexus 7 2 device arriving at Google I/O on May 15th,  in this set of renders we get a look at the Nexus 8, which Bob Freking believes will help the smaller Nexus better compete with the iPad mini.

Odds are the Nexus 5 smartphone won’t arrive until later this year, possibly at an Android 5.0 event, as rumors indicate a Nexus 4 LTE model will appear at Google I/O next week.

The Nexus 5 in this render features a new look with a textured white back which looks to replace the fragile glass back of the Nexus 4.

This Nexus 5 features a 5-inch 1080P HD display, which would put it on par with the Samsung Galaxy S4. Freking puts a 1.9GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor inside, which is rumored for the Nexus 7 2, but is also designed with smartphones in mind. We also hear of a better 13MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera.

The smallest storage capacity here would be 16GB, which makes sense given the lack of a MicroSD card slot and the growing size of Android games.

The Nexus 8 is an upgraded Nexus 7 with a larger higher resolution display. The Asus Nexus 8 appears to feature a matte black back and adds a rear facing camera. The render’s specs feature a Snapdragon 600 processor similar to the one found in the HTC One.

Freking places the price of the Nexus 8 tablet at $199 for the 8GB mode, undercutting the iPad mini by $129, though offering less storage.

While this is an interesting take on how Google and Asus could take on the iPad mini, all signs point to a new Nexus 7 this year.

Samsung is best known for the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note tablets, but they also make the Nexus 10. Rumors claim the Samsung Nexus 11 will replace the Nexus 10 this year. Google announced the larger Nexus tablet at a special event in late 2012, so we may not see a new tablet of this size at Google I/O.

In this render we see a super high-resolution display and the Nvidia Tegra 4 processor which Nvidia introduced at CES 2013 earlier this year.

Another new Android tablet to launch this month that’s worth reviewing is the Icoo 7GS – 3G — available through a site called TabletSprint — this new 7 Inch tablet rivals the $300 Nexus 7 3G edition, with most of the same features, but sells for about $200 — and features a Quad Core processor, WiFi, an HD 1280X800 IPS screen, GPS/Bluetooth and 3G HSPA+ internet and phone call connection through any GSM carrier, including AT&T and T-Mobile– certainly worth checking out…
