Nexus 5 Photo Doesn’t Match Leaks

Published

on

A purported photo an LG Nexus 5 has leaked out but given how far away we likely are from a launch and given rumors we’ve heard about the Nexus 5, the photo’s credibility is flimsy at best.

In the past few weeks, Nexus 5 rumors have started to heat up with leaks suggesting that the device will be heading to shelves sometime in the fourth quarter, just like the Nexus 4. Last week, rumors suggested that the Nexus 5 would indeed be made by LG and that it would take after the LG G2, a device that is set to hit the United States in the weeks ahead.

The device, like the LG G2, is rumored to have a 5.2-inch display, quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, and a 13MP camera. It’s also likely to have Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie on board when it arrives. But while rumors have suggested that the Nexus 5 will have similar hardware to the LG G2, rumors suggest that it will have a different design.

The Nexus 4, which took after LG’s Optimus G, took on a design that was drastically different than the Optimus G’s. Google’s Nexus 4 not only featured Nexus branding but it also featured a plastic back and similar but different dimensions. The Nexus 5 has been rumored to have a design that is reminiscent of the Nexus 4, complete with glass on the back and front. It’s also supposed to sport thinner bezels.

It’s these rumors, along with Google’s Nexus history, that make today’s alleged LG Nexus 5 photo leak from Techtastic extremely unlikely. The device that has appeared on camera is a device that sports an LG logo, but no Nexus logo, like all of Google’s Nexus devices. It has a plastic back instead of a rumored glass back.

The LG G2 features a plastic back with a volume rocker.

It does, however, match the design of the LG G2 sans the volume rocker on the back of the phone, something that isn’t expected to arrive with the new Nexus smartphone.

At best, this is a prototype, at the worst, it’s a fake so prospective Nexus 5 buyers shouldn’t read too much into the photo at this point.

In the past, we’ve seen Google’s Nexus devices leak out ahead of launch. The Nexus 4 was already reviewed before it arrived last year. However, given that the Nexus 5 isn’t supposed to land until late October, any images sprouting to the surface now should be taken with a grain of salt.

LG is heavily rumored to be making the Nexus 5 while there are also rumors of a Motorola Nexus smartphone as well, something that should make for an interesting pre-launch build up to Google’s new Nexus smartphone.

Not the Nexus 5. As you note it does not have Google nor Nexus logo on the back. Have no idea what it is, but don’t really care.

“Google’s Nexus 4 not only featured Nexus branding but it also featured a plastic back…” Enough said….

Well, he’s wrong. The Nexus 4 famously has a GLASS back, not plastic. Idiots.

I think it being googles main phone, having a snapdragon 800, and adreno 330 make it a flagship to me.

Exactly. The Nexus 5 will beat anything else out there that doesn’t have a Snapdragon 800. Sony and Samsung are rushing updated Xperia and Galaxy S4 phones out this fall with Snapdragon 800 chips so they don’t get left in the dust by the LG G2 and the Nexus 5.

It would say “Google” or “neXus” on the back not the lg logo.

GLARING IDIOT MISTAKE: “Google’s Nexus 4 not only featured Nexus branding but it also featured a plastic back and similar but different dimensions. ”

Are you stupid? The Nexus 4 famously has a GLASS back, not plastic.

Seriously, you need to correct that major factual error. The Nexus 4 has a GLASS back, not plastic.

Who knows, maybe they will change things up, I mean isn’t the S4 made of plastic?

I’m talking about the MISTAKE the writer made, claiming last year’s Nexus 4 has a plastic back. Can you not read? Last year’s Nexus 4 has a GLASS back.

The Nexus 4 was the ONLY Nexus to sport the Nexus logo, all the others only said Google and the manufacturer. That being said, IF the device is indeed made by LG, its likely that it would once again have the Nexus logo. Besides, seeing as how far off the expected launch date is, this would likely be, like you said, a prototype.
