Nexus 7 2 Release Date & Features All But Confirmed

Thanks to incessant leaks, consumers can expect Google to announce a new Nexus 7 tablet, currently dubbed Nexus 7 2 at its launch event in San Francisco next week. Furthermore, those Nexus 7 2 leaks have virtually left no stone unturned, all but assuring a lack of big surprises come next week.

For months now, the Nexus 7 2 has been a source of rumors, dating back prior to the arrival of Google I/O in May. The company failed to announce the Nexus 7 2 at its annual developer conference but that clearly isn’t going to stop Google from releasing a new Nexus 7 to compete with the likes of the iPad mini and Kindle Fire HD.

No, rumors of a new Nexus 7 have been incessant and fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, have left little to the imagination ahead of the device’s launch on July 24th.

Leaks have surfaced on a near daily basis with rumors, and certifications at various bodies, indicating that the Nexus 7 2 will be coming with a number of upgrades from the previous Nexus 7 including a display with 1980 x 1200 resolution, 5MP camera in the rear, sleek design that looks like it will at least partially resemble the previous Nexus 7, and a price tag that could check in $30 more expensive than the previous model.

Today, another leak has confirmed even more details. Leaked images sent to Engadget confirm a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 7-inch display, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, HDMI out and wireless charging support. It also looks like the device will hit Staples on July 31st, or seven days after its initial arrival.

The Nexus 7 2 will evidently come with these features on board.

What that means for the Google Play Store is unclear though it’s entirely possible that we could see Google release the Nexus 7 2 before retailers get their hands on it. That would be unusual but it’s still possible.

What’s clear is that the company will be announcing both Android 4.3 and the new Nexus 7 next week, two devices that could potentially be joined by the new Moto X, Google’s collaboration with Motorola.
