Nexus 7 LTE Arrives on Google Play Store

Published

on

The Nexus 7 LTE is now available on the Google Play Store in the United States, several weeks ahead of the iPad mini 2 launch date and just a few weeks after Google announced the device for arrival.

In late July, Google announced the new Nexus 7, a successor to the original Nexus 7. The device features a number of new features including a better display, better design and Android 4.3. Google also announced a model with LTE on board though the device did not land alongside the Wi-Fi only model back in late July. Instead the company listed the device as “coming soon.”

Today, the “coming soon” tag has been lifted as the $350 Nexus 7 LTE 32GB is now available on the U.S. Google Play Store for the first time, beating other regions to the punch by just a few days.

The Nexus 7 LTE is now on sale in the Google Play Store.

The device comes with a T-Mobile SIM though we expect that the device will work with both AT&T and Verizon SIM cards as Google promised though that remains unconfirmed.

Google offers free shipping on the Nexus 7 LTE and will ship the device to those that have been waiting in one to two days. The company seemed better prepared this time around so we expect the company to have ample stock in the days ahead. It’s not clear if Google will offer this device at retailers around the country like it does with the Wi-Fi only Nexus 7.

Google now offers three Nexus 7 variants.

The device’s release comes several weeks after its initial launch and just a few weeks before Apple’s rumored iPad event which is thought to be taking place in October ahead of a November release.

That event is expected to yield at least one Nexus 7 competitor in the form of the iPad mini 2 but should also produce a larger 9.7-inch iPad 5. Google is expected to deliver a new Nexus 10 to compete with the larger iPad with a release rumored for the fourth quarter.

Google is expected to announce a new Nexus smartphone in late October alongside Android 4.4 KitKat and a Nexus 10 2 could also arrive at that point as well.
