Nexus 9 Video and Photos Give Early Look Ahead of Release

Google’s brand new just announced Nexus 9 tablet isn’t available for pre-order until tomorrow, and won’t officially be released until early November, but we’re already getting our first hands-on pictures and video courtesy of a few lucky users.

In a similar fashion to how the Nexus 5 leaked ahead of the release date and after the anouncement last year, we’re now getting an entire gallery showing off Google’s brand new design, as well as an overview video of HTC’s new tablet. It’s compared briefly to the iPad Air, but more importantly, shown off for the first time for prospective buyers to get an idea of what to expect before pre-orders go live tomorrow.

Yesterday Google announced the new Nexus 9 tablet, but only released a slew of press photo or renders. Meaning we’ve yet to see the actual tablet out in the wild, in use, and from every angle. If you’re interested in Google’s HTC Nexus 9 running the new Android 5.0 Lollipop, read on past the break for all the details and a quick video.

Thanks to a few lucky guys over at a Vietnamese website and YouTube channel, we’re now getting an early in-depth look of the new Nexus 9 ahead of the release date all on video. The device is still over two weeks away from being available for buyers, and now we can see nearly everything it has to offer.

Before we get started on the photos (like the one above) below is a quick hands-on and overview video of Google’s impressive looking new Android tablet. The Schannel over on YouTube was lucky enough to get their hands on the tablet, and have a nice video giving buyers a detailed look. Everything from the brushed aluminum sides, how it looks and feels in your hands, and much more.

Despite most of the video being of the back and sides of the tablet showing off the design and comparing the thin shape and lightweight design to the iPad Air, we still get a few looks of the software. The new app drawer and notification system makes an appearance, and while the software is probably an unfinished test build, it still runs extremely smooth. Without explaining more, take a peek below.

The app drawer no longer takes up the entire screen when it’s opened, and we see a nice pop-up animation here as well. Much of the new Android 5.0 Lollipop release is centered around animations, effects, and visual feedback and response from the UI to touches and other navigation. It all looks quite nice, and is extremely smooth given this is an early prototype unit with non-final software.

Around the 1:20 mark we also get a few quick photo samples of the camera, which are decent, and hopefully the 8 megapixel OIS camera ends up being rather good. The reviewer mentions the speakers aren’t as impressive as the HTC One M8, but are quite nice. Of course we’ll have to wait until November 3rd to give it a try ourselves, but this is our first look yet and worth checking out.

Thankfully this isn’t the only leak that arrived either. Last night after Google announced the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 another leakster revealed over 30 photos of the tablet. The same site that leaked the Nexus 5 is back with the Nexus 9. Giving us a great look at the hardware and design, aluminum edges, the subtle curves around the back, and much much more. The tablet looks quite nice, if I don’t say so myself. More photos can be found from Tinhte.

Above is a look at the new icons, the impressive 8.9-inch 2560 x 1536 Quad-HD display, as well as one of the two front facing speakers at the top and the bottom. The bezels are quite thin, and so far we’re hearing it feels great to hold and use.

The brushed aluminum design that curves around the entire device adds to the overall design look and feel, durability, and gives it a premium feel that’s been missing from previous Nexus tablets.

The photo above again shows the brushed aluminum edges, and the subtle curve around back that makes the tablet seem thinner in the hand than it really is, makes it easier to hold, but also reveals the slightly protruding 8 megapixel camera around back. Again, hit the link above for over 30 more photos.
