No Need to Wait for the iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S for a Color iPhone

Rumors suggest Apple may add color options to the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6, but users that can’t bear to wait for Apple to offer iPod touch-like color options there are options.

Users can get a color iPhone 5 for $250 to $280 customizing multiple colors including the back, glass sections, the home button and even the SIM card tray to create a completely new look for the iPhone 5.

There are several companies that offer color iPhone services, but Colorware and Anostyle are the most popular options. Anostyle uses anodization, a chemical process, to change the color and offers many bright options with the same aluminum feel as the stock iPhone 5. Colorware hand paints the iPhone 5 with custom color options, offering more opportunities to choose specific colors.

Colorware lets users color an iPhone 5 with six customization points and more than two dozen color options.

Both of these companies let users mail in their own iPhone 5 for coloring or anodization, which means users will be without the phone for a week or so, but it also means it’s more affordable than buying an unlocked iPhone 5 direct form the company.

With this option users aren’t limited to a handful of color options that Apple might offer with the iPhone 5S this year or on an iPhone 6 in 2014. Between the two services there are over 60 color options to pick from.

Colorware offers six customization options, as shown in the image above which may be the only Miami Dolphins iPhone 5 in existence. Users can pick from solid or metallic color options and choose between a matte or gloss finish. A Colorware customization costs $289 for an iPhone 5 the user sends in, and it takes 7-10 business days to complete the process.

AnoStyle’s chemical anodization process doesn’t use paint, which some user may appreciate even though there aren’t as many customization options available. AnyStyle offers 13 color choices including a gold iPhone 5 option and a hot pink iPhone 5 option.

A gold iPhone 5 is just $250 more than the standard iPhone cost.

Unlike Colorware which requires a defect free iPhone 5 to color the device, AnoStyle works on phones that have a scratch or small dent on the back, and claims the process wil make the phone look better than before because the process delivers a seamless color.

AnoStyle is $249 for a custom color iPhone 5, which requires users send in their own iPhone. Users can choose a main color and a button color, but cannot color the home button. The process can take up to two weeks to complete.

Don’t plan on taking the iPhone 5 into Apple for a replacement, as the process voids the warranty from Apple. Colorware offers a 1 year warranty on parts and labor with purchase of an iPhone direct from the company. AnoStyle points to the company’s repair service if things go bad. Users may be able to purchase a SquareTrade warranty, as it covers many iPhones that Appel and others won’t, but it’s a good idea to check before buying.
