Nokia Enlists Zombies to Promote It’s Camera Optics, Lumia 925

A new web commercial for the Nokia Lumia 925 attempts to drive home the message that Nokia’s latest flagship is simply better at taking photos in low-light situations.

The video, which was posted to the NokiaHomeBase YouTube page this past week, forgoes the company’s usual mix of trance music and lighthearted photo situations. Instead the entire commercial acts as horror film that specifically makes fun of Apple’s iPhone.

It begins with a Nokia Lumia 925 user walking along the sidewalk on an empty street. As he approaches the end of the street, a large bright flash of light appears and then quickly disappears. A gentleman who’s been traumatized by the blinding white light approaches the lone guy.

The blinding flash light happens again, only this time a woman turns around to stare directly into the camera. Only, in addition to being ghost-white, he also has red eyes: a reference to the red eye effect that sometimes happens when users take photos in low-light situations using flash.

The flashes then begin to happen at a much steadier pace, creating a long succession of people who have been affected by the flash of a camera, all moving in a zombie-like trance. They all begin to take pictures of random people on the street, with the unsuspecting victims instantly being transformed as well.

By then, the flash zombies have nearly surrounded the entire area and are beginning to corner the Lumia user with an Apple iPhone 5 preparing to take a picture. Just then the entire picture fades to black, suggesting that the iPhone 5 has turned the Lumia 925 user into a flash-effected ghost zombie as well. The iPhone 5 user is then shown uttering the word “photo.”

The video closes with the message “The Best Pictures in Any Light. Even without the flash. The new Nokia Lumia 925.”

As the Nokia Lumia 925 includes the optical image stabilization and other enhancements from the company’s 808 PureView camera phone, it’s been Nokia’s position that its devices simply take better pictures in situations that other devices, like the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S4, just can’t.

The Nokia Lumia 925 is expected to arrive on T-Mobile sometime soon, and also features an aluminum design in addition to the PureView camera technology.

This great commercial, I have taken pictures and is a big problem with the little light that there is no opening or closing of a diaphragm as with professional cameras.
