Nokia Lumia 900 Gets Closer to Launch on AT&T

Published

on

While Nokia is excited about how its Nokia Lumia 710 has performed on T-Mobile thus far, the real test will be how well its flagship Windows Phone, the Nokia Lumia 900, does when it arrives in the United States in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, we’re still unclear as to when that is exactly. AT&T,  Nokia and Microsoft have remained mum about a Lumia 900 release date thus far. However, we know it’s close as the phone has just passed through the FCC, splayed out for the world to see.

The filing was first discovered by Engadget and it shows off Nokia’s upcoming flagship device torn apart in the wilds. It also includes a full manual for AT&T’s flagship Windows Phone device and we also get a glimpse at where the antenna’s on the device are located.

Nothing earth shattering, but certainly enough to hold those of you interested in the Lumia 900 over until it officially arrives.

As for that, Mobile World Congress is almost over and we have yet to hear anything about an official release date or pricing for the Lumia 900. A little surprising, but we still expect the Lumia 900 to arrive on time in March.

Thus far, the only price tag that we have heard attached to it is that stellar $99 on-contract price. If true, that tag would definitely fall in line with the aggressive pricing strategy that Nokia said it would employ here in the United States.

Nokia Lumia 900 Gets Closer to Launch on AT&T

The company’s first Windows Phone in the U.S. T-Mobile’s Lumia 710, is currently available for free on T-Mobile. Quite the steal and a price that has obviously helped the device exceed Nokia’s expectations.

As for the other Lumia device available in the U.S., the Nokia 800, it’s currently available in a bundle for $899. That’s the only way to get it and it’s unclear if it will ever be sold by itself for a cheaper price.

What this means is that there is a lot riding on the Lumia 900 and its launch and it appears that we don’t have long before we found out what AT&T, Nokia and Microsoft have in store for consumers and Windows Phone enthusiasts in the U.S.

Thanks for writing about this.  Will Nokia answer your calls if you asked them the question?  Maybe they wouldnt answer it, but it would be nice if they could at least officially deny the March 18 date?  So far…no confirmation, no denial, nada.  It seems they havent even been asked the question by the press.

Yes, thanks for this nug of info! I was able to pre-order mine from the local Microsoft Store here in San Diego Cali on 2/5 and haven’t heard ANYTHING since. When pre-ordered the store rep said “mid March” but with that 2 weeks out and no official word AND the subsequent pull of the pre-order program a week later, it sounded doubtful. I sent an emal via problem ticket to the Microsoft Store earlier today. If they reply, I’ll post it here.  Thanks again!  ~peace~

I’m really pulling for Nokia to be successful in this Lumia 900 launch but they are shooting themselves in the foot by taking their sweet time to get in the game.  There has been no hype, no pre-promotion, no information.  If they don’t step up their marketing plan this launch could go unnoticed.

I have to agree with mc on this. Back in January I went to the AT&T store to up grade my phone to the HTC Windows phone. The salesman asked if I was in a hurry. Not really, I replied. He talked me into taking a look at the Nokia 900. He even pulled up on his computer so I could compare it to other Windows phones. I agreed to wait. Then in February they said Nokia’s launch date was set for March 18th. If Nokia  does not give us something to go on soon, or launch in mid March, I just might go ahead and purchase the HTC phone. And I don’t think I’ll be sorry because I’m not into taking pictures or video. And that was the biggest difference in the two phones. So Nokia needs to get with it and give us something to go on.

Agreed – I’m looking at the Titan tonight.  This is kinda sucky that we haven’t heard anything. I’d rather not buy a ‘slower’ phone than I could have gotten in November in April – built quality or not Nokia has to get to the US market and impress… fast.
