Nokia Lumia 900 Rumor Roundup: Features, Release Date, Carriers

Published

on

With the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) just around the corner in January, rumors are heating up about what, if anything, Nokia will be announcing at the show. We already know that the company will be launching its Windows Phone-powered Lumia 710 on T-Mobile in the beginning of January but whispers seem to point to another launch that may be taking place in January as well.

The launch that we speak of course is the rumored Nokia Lumia 900, a device that is believed to be the true flagship Windows Phone from Nokia. Apologies to the already available Lumia 800.

And while we think we have a pretty good grasp on Nokia’s Lumia 900, it’s still not official, and that means that the rumors will persist until Microsoft and Nokia make it official.

What are those rumors exactly?

Let’s take a look.

Lumia 900Features

As of right now, no photos of Nokia’s Lumia 900 have leaked out so we don’t really know what the phone is all about, at least from a design stand-point. We’ve heard that it may be similar to the Lumia 800 but that hasn’t been confirmed. And while we don’t know for sure what the Lumia 900 may or may not look like, we have heard some of the specifications that might be on board when it arrives.

We’ve heard that the Lumia 900 will see a boost in screen size from the Lumia 800 and will sport a ClearBlack 4.3-inch AMOLED display. If you need a screen to compare in size, think about the screen size of the HTC EVO 4G or Motorola Droid Bionic, both of which are 4.3-inches.

In addition to the large screen, the Lumia 900 is said to sport a 1.4GHz processor of unknown origins, an 8MP rear camera with single LED flash, a front-facing camera, 16GB of 32GB of storage, and either a glossy or matte finish.

It’s also said to pack support for 4G LTE networks.

Release Date

Well, very obviously, this is unknown at this point. Rumors are pointing to Nokia announcing the device at CES and if that’s the case, we may see a release shortly after the announcement, in the same fashion as the company’s Nokia World announcements.

Of course, because this is Nokia we’re talking about here, we’ll probably see a global release of the Lumia 900. And if the launch of the phone is similar to the Lumia 710 and 800, those in the U.S. might be waiting until after the device launches in Europe and elsewhere.

It’s also possible that we could see the phone announced at CES and get released in September.

Oh wait, that was the Droid Bionic.

Carriers

Lumia 900

At this point it’s tough to nail down exactly where the Lumia 900 will be headed but we can speculate. If, in fact, the phone has 4G LTE capabilities, it would appear that AT&T and Verizon are the front-runners.

Previously, we had heard that it was going to be coming to AT&T, on both its 4G LTE and HSPA+ 4G networks.

Of course, neither is set in stone but Ma Bell and Big Red seem to be likely destinations with AT&T being the most probable.

Nokia Lumia

The Lumia 900 will likely be more expensive then these.

Pricing

Unlike the carriers, it’s extremely hard to speculate as to how much U.S. carriers will be charging for the Lumia 900.

AT&T has had reasonable asking prices for its 4G LTE devices thus far, something that can be attributed to the network’s small footprint, so it’s possible that we could see the Lumia 900 launch for the same, or at least close to, the $250 that AT&T commands for the Galaxy S II Skyrocket.

And if by some chance Verizon does launch this phone, we see no reason why Verizon wouldn’t charge the $300 premium it has slapped onto its other 4G LTE smartphones.

Software

All signs seem to point to the Lumia 900 being a Windows Phone Tango phone and not a Windows Phone 7.5 Mango device. We’ve heard that the Tango update may be shown off at CES.

At this point, the Tango update is a bit of a mystery, although it has been speculated that it will allow Microsoft to not only launch 4G LTE devices but phones with smaller displays.

Again, like everything else, all of this is just rumor at this point. But with CES just a few weeks away, we don’t have to wait long to see what’s real and what’s not.

Does anyone care ? WinMob is so limiting to phones’ hardware (fixed resolution ? in 2011 ?) and a bit backward in every other way. That phone will be lackluster, with a good camera since that’s the only aspect not jinxed in advance by MS.

Obviously you’ve never used any Apple products, which are all the same.

      Go troll somewhere else.
