Nokia To Announce “Arrow” And “Phi” Windows Phone 8 Devices Next Month

On September 5 Nokia will announce its new Windows Phone 8 devices in New York City, and two phones will likely land on AT&T.

According to The Verge, Nokia will announce its “Arrow” and “Phi” Windows Phone 8 phones during the September 5 event. The “Phi” is the high-end model that’s the successor to the Lumia 800 and 900, while the “Arrow” is more of a mid-range smartphone.

We’ve seen leaks of the Phi in the past. The leaks point to a phone that has the same polycarbonate shell as the Lumia 800 and 900 with a curved screen. Some photos showed that screen with a 4-inch display. A new patent The Verge found shows the phone will look like the Lumia 900 with a few slight changes.

Recent leaks also showed a 4.3-inch display for a prototype Windows Phone 8 phone from Nokia. We don’t know if Nokia and Microsoft will announce the phone the display belongs to, but it sounds doubtful. This rumor sounds like Nokia is planning just one phone to succeed to Lumia 800 and 900 instead of two.

Both the Phi and Arrow will come to AT&T, which was Microsoft’s “premier” partner for Windows Phone 7. The Arrow will also come to T-Mobile which currently carries the Nokia Lumia 710. A variant of the Arrow, codenamed “Atlas” will also come to Verizon, but probably not at the same time.

The last rumors we heard said Microsoft will release Windows Phone 8 in November, a full two months after the Nokia announcement. We hope the phone are worth waiting for, or else Apple will steal all the attention away with the launch of the iPhone 5. Or Motorola might steal attention on the same day with the announcement of the RAZR HD and the DROID M.
