Nokia Windows Phone 8 Lumia Smartphones Said to Be ‘Incredible’

One Nokia fan who has had access to a Nokia employee says that the employee tells him that the company’s efforts with Windows Phone 8 will be ‘incredible.’ The phone is described as ‘unbelievable’ and ‘nothing the current Lumia line could compare to.’ Given Nokia’s accolades with the Lumia 800 and the Lumia 900 for the devices’ features and design, Nokia is really trying to outdo itself with the next-generation crop of Windows Phone.

All current Nokia phone releases today are based on some version of the Windows Phone 7 platform. With the next-generation OS speculated to arrive later this year, Windows Phone 8 will bring new capabilities and functionality to Nokia and other Windows Phone hardware manufacturers. That OS has been codenamed as Apollo in the past.

Twitter user Cosimo (@zehjotkah) says that the source is trustworthy and that the information presented to him did not come from a Nokia marketing employee: “This employee is not a marketing guy and I trust him. For reasons. He’s using a N9 and likes it more than Windows Phones.”

Other areas within the Windows Phone ecosystem that Nokia could improve on is camera functionality. Based on a sheer megapixel count, the Nokia Lumia 900, announced earlier this year for AT&T’s network and landing on April 8th, is bested by the rival HTC Titan II, though the latter has a smaller image sensor than the 8-megapixel shooter with wide angle front and rear Carl Zeiss lenses on the Lumia 900. Nokia also announced a 41-megapixel camera phone at Mobile World Congress recently, though that model runs on the company’s Symbian operating system and is not coming to the U.S. as Nokia’s U.S. arm had announced that it is committed to the Windows Phone platform moving forward.

Nokia has been aggressively innovating on top of Windows Phone while at the same time not creating a fragmented ecosystem. Its Lumia phones have exclusive access to free turn-by-turn GPS through Nokia Drive, Internet radio through Nokia Music, and other apps designed exclusively for the Lumia line.

When Windows Phone 8 gets released later this year, it will most likely have to compete with Android 5 Jelly Bean and the new iPhone that’s coming this fall, and Nokia will have to be aggressive against those competitors.
