5 Things to Know Now About the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop Update

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update is picking up its pace and we’ve seen a number of new details emerge in April for owners of the former flagship. With that in mind, we want to take a look at what you need to know this week about the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop release. This mini roundup will get you caught up to speed on the latest Galaxy Note 3 Android 5.0 developments.

In December, Samsung started rolling out a Galaxy S5 Lollipop update, its first Lollipop update. At the time, many people expected the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update to be next in line because Samsung typically updates its current flagships before updating former flagships. That did not happen.

Instead, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates started rolling out  to the dismay of Galaxy Note 4 users in the United States and around the world. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update has been rolling out since late January and we’re finally starting to see it make some progress in the US and in regions around the world.

For those of you that don’t follow along on a daily basis, keeping track of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop movements can be a very difficult task. There is a ton of information out there and that information can change in a split second.

In this past week alone we’ve seen a number of new developments and it’s our job to keep you in the loop. That’s why we want to take a look at the most important things we think you need to know, this week, about the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop release in the United States and elsewhere.

Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop Update Moving in April

We’re only a few days into the month of April and we’ve already seen the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update hit several different regions around the world. It’s a sign that we could finally see the breakout we’ve been looking for.

In the last six days, the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update has hit users in the United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, China (Galaxy Note 3 LTE DUOS), and Taiwan. That’s a whole lot of movement in less than a week and it’s a sign that Samsung is finally starting to let this update out of its shell. And that makes sense given that we’re nearly three months removed from the start of the release.

These updates come on the heels of several Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates in North America. Not the United States unfortunately but Canada. Several Canadian carriers (Bell, TELUS, Virgin) have begun their Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop releases and we expect several more to take place soon.

Upcoming Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop Releases

Samsung still has a long way to go before this roll out is over and done and so it should come as no surprise that we’re seeing some carriers confirm details ahead of their release.

Late last week, Canadian carrier Rogers confirmed plans to roll its Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update out this month. Given that Canadian Android update releases typically cluster around one another, this doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. Galaxy Note 3 users as Rogers will want to keep an eye out for the their Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update.

In the United States, we know that Sprint is planning to get a Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update out to its users though we still don’t have a read on the specific timing. As a reminder, Sprint customer service reps have hinted at an arrival in May or June though that remains unconfirmed and in our eyes, an unlikely scenario.

Many Carriers Silent So Be Patient

We’ve seen a strong push to kick off the month but most carriers remain silent about their plans. French carrier SFR, Australian carriers and US carriers like Verizon and U.S. Cellular all remain mum about Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates. This doesn’t mean that they won’t roll anything out, it just means that the roll outs could still be weeks out in the distance.

Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop Problems Continue

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop problems continue to be a problem for users in the international community and in the United States.

AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop problems currently include various problems with battery drain, problems with the S Pen that sound a whole lot like the S Pen problems Galaxy Note 4 users are facing after Lollipop, problems with text messages, installation issues, problems with apps, problems with Wi-Fi connectivity, problems with widgets, Bluetooth problems, and more.

We’re also seeing positive feedback from Galaxy Note 3 users. Some users claim that the Lollipop update actually helped their battery life. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop change log doesn’t list a ton of fixes but we know that there are some fixes on board.

While we wait for carriers and Samsung to address these Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop problems, it’s probably a good time to get acquainted with our fixes for common Lollipop problems and our guide to getting better Galaxy Note 3 battery life after Lollipop.

Galaxy Note 3 Android 5.1 Lollipop

These fixes are especially important because earlier this month, we heard that Samsung still doesn’t have the Android 5.1 update in development. This doesn’t mean that the update isn’t coming to the Galaxy Note 3 but it means that a release, if there is one, is far off in the distance.

Google’s Android 5.1 update is a massive bug fix update and one that solves a lot of major Lollipop issues. Unfortunately those of you who do encounter Android 5.0 problems will have to rely on third-party fixes. Carriers will almost certainly roll out bug fix updates later this year but their release dates are extremely unpredictable.

Lollipop hit my Note 3 on April 3rd. I’m in the Detroit market, AT&T. The look is nice and smooth. Clean colors. I haven’t noticed a ton of changes as I’m using GO Launcher which bypasses alot of the stock functions.
