The Galaxy Note Edge Release Date: Everything We Know

Published

on

Its been a month since the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge launch date and we’re still without a specific Galaxy Note Edge release date. With consumers looking for answers, we want to roundup everything we currently know about the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release and the key details that buyers need to know about right now.

Just about a month ago, Samsung took to the stage in Berlin, Germany and announced a handful of new products including the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Gear VR, Gear S smartwatch, and a unique new product called the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note Edge will be a part of the storied Galaxy Note series though it’s unlike any Galaxy Note that’s ever been released.

While it shares some things in common with the Galaxy Note 4, the Galaxy Note Edge is a little bit different. The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge features a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus though the display, seen in the video below, should be its biggest draw.

When Samsung announced the Galaxy Note Edge, it revealed a number of important details including those Galaxy Note Edge specs. However, it was also extremely vague about the Galaxy Note Edge release date and Galaxy Note Edge price, two extremely important components. Over the last month though, we’ve seen information start to fill in the blanks.

With a Galaxy Note Edge release date in sight, we want to take a look at everything we know about it. While we still don’t have an official date, there’s quite a bit that consumers need to digest. Here are the important things that you prospective Galaxy Note Edge buyers need to know.

Most Galaxy Note Edge Release Dates MIA

Maybe the first thing that we need to convey to you is that most Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release dates remain missing in action and more importantly, specific Galaxy Note Edge release dates are non-existent. We don’t have any concrete dates though we do have the official “later this year” and “fall” release windows that were dished out by Samsung and its U.S. carrier partners which include AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

Samsung’s unpredictable when it comes to announcements though with all of the progress that the Galaxy Note Edge release has made behind the scenes, we’ve seen it pass a number of necessary certifications, an announcement could take place in the n0t-so-distant future. One thing that needs to be addressed though is the lack of FCC filings for the U.S. bound Galaxy Note Edge.

The Galaxy Note Edge needs to clear the FCC before Samsung and its carriers can announce specific release dates. We have yet to see any of the models pass through the FCC, a sign that we could still be a little ways away from a U.S. release.

With the Galaxy Note 4, the models starting passing through about a week before Samsung made the release date official. While it may not work out the same way with the Galaxy Note Edge, these FCC filings would do wonders for the Galaxy Note Edge’s biggest mystery.

Limited Galaxy Note Edge Release

We now know that the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone, a designation that Samsung bestowed upon it just a few days ago. What this means is that the Galaxy Note Edge release is going to be limited in scope and according to Samsung, limited to select regions around the world.

In a recent announcement, Samsung revealed that “the Galaxy Note Edge will be released in selected markets” something that also points to a very controlled release. With the Galaxy Note Edge marketed as a high-end flagship smartphone, it’s possible that its reach will only extend to high-end markets. So far, we’ve only seen high-end markets confirmed: U.S., UK, Korea, Japan, and Canada.

Consumers outside of key regions will want to temper expectations because it looks like the Galaxy Note Edge release will be far more limited than the Galaxy Note 4 release. The Galaxy Note 4 is set to hit 140 countries in October.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Confirmed for October

The specific Galaxy Note Edge release date still hasn’t been confirmed though we do have some leads on a Galaxy Note Edge release date window for some regions.

In September, a Samsung official stated that the Galaxy Note Edge release could take place in late October. While we initially thought that that window would be limited to Korea, it now looks like it could apply to the Japanese market as well with one carrier confirming an arrival at the tail end of the month, after the Galaxy Note 4 release.

NTT DoCoMo, one of Japan’s largest carriers, recently announced the Galaxy Note Edge. While a firm date isn’t known, it will start selling it from the end of October. Evidently, it will start selling the white Galaxy Note Edge model sometime in November though a specific date isn’t known. The Galaxy Note Edge only comes in two colors, black and white.

Galaxy Note Edge Delays

Clove, a retailer based in the United Kingdom, claims that the UK will not get the Galaxy Note Edge during its initial release and that this delay could impact other unspecific nations in Europe as well. It’s not clear how big of a delay we might see. Samsung UK says that availability will be announced in due course though it hasn’t outlined any specific plans.

Samsung Canada recently confirmed a 2015 release date for the Galaxy Note Edge. It says that it will be behind the United States release though it’s not clear how far behind the U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release it might be. It’s also not clear if this 2015 window applies to any other regions outside of Canada.

Galaxy Note Edge Pre-Orders

Despite the potential for a delay, Clove UK is currently taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Note Edge. When it announced the delay, it said that it would try to source devices from other distributors and it appears that it has figured that out behind the scenes. The Galaxy Note Edge pre-order price is extremely expensive though the retailers says that it’s not official.

The only other Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders we’ve seen come from a German retailer. The retailer, like Clove, is charging a steep Galaxy Note Edge price ahead of its release. There isn’t a specific Galaxy Note Edge release date on hand either.

Flagship Android smartphones typically go up for pre-order ahead of release so while details remain scarce at the moment, carriers and retailers might reveal their plans closer to the actual release date. It’s a practice that we’ve seen in the past.

I’m sure there are a lot of people lusting to get ahold of one of these, but the problem may be in being able to manufacture 10 million of them what with the complicated screen. I’m sure that a lot of potential Note 4 buyers would like to get their hands on this model instead. The are probably doing limited releases to make sure that some unseen problems don’t develop. I bet the would like to get Android L (5) on this one, and if they procrastinate any longer, that could be a possibility. It will be interesting to see how these sell in a few years when they hit the resale markets. .

Not very smart for Samsung to have released the note 4 and the note 4 edge separately especially if they wanted to compete with the iPhone 6 and 6+ The article said note 4 buyers will probably be holding out for the note 4 edge and Samsung wanted to make A run at Apples sales figures with the note 4 by holding out on the note 4 edge They screwed up because possible note 4 buyers Will be waiting to see if they can get their hands on a note 4 edge which supposedly will be limited all I’m saying is Samsung dropped the ball just because they were not prepared

Seriously? Another article with no new information, just recycled from the last 30 articles that basically all say the same thing??? Adam, you suck man. Please respond and tell us how this article is needed or give us any new information? Please explain why the words Galaxy Note 4 has to mentioned over 20 times in one article? Where did you learn how to write? Or, do what you usually do and just delete these comments that call your motives in to question. You are a poser my friend.

Don’t fully advertise a highly anticipated phone and then sit on it like it didn’t exist, this is very poor example of product enticement.
