The note taking service that transcribed your voice notes and turned them into text? I haven’t played around with Jott much since they began to charge (not a criticism, it just wasn’t worth it in my circumstance.)

Well, Jott has been acquired by Nuance, which is already into the speech biz as well as imaging.   Press release after the jump.

I’m curious. I know a number of GBM readers used Jott as it was in beta and before it became a paid service. If you’re still using Jott, let us know your thoughts.

Nuance Acquires Jott, Expands Mobile Portfolio

Innovative Jott Service to Deliver Powerful New Voice-to-Text Capabilities to Mobile Operators and Enterprise Customers

BURLINGTON, Mass. & SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) today announced it has expanded its Mobile Division voice services portfolio with the acquisition of Jott. ““Jott’s voice-to-text offerings have experienced a groundswell of adoption and positive industry recognition since the company’s inception, and we’re thrilled about the opportunity to expand our market reach and our voice services portfolio,” said Michael Thompson, senior vice president and general manager, Nuance Mobile. ““Together we will deliver a range of new services to our mobile operator and enterprise customers.”

I used Jott when it was in Beta, and it was mildly useful. But at $5 a month the value was just not there. But I do think they had some decent speech to text technology, and can see why that would be attractive.

I use Jott all the time. As a Dragon user prior to moving to Mac I’m not happy about this as I have never been a fan of Nuance. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired and, once you are in their data-base the come close to spamming about other products. This is not a good occurance for consumers imo.

Use and love Jott. Hope they don’t change it too much esp the price. It is effective for me since I “live” in outlook.

I used Jott in Beta but gave it up as I wasnt using often enough to justify paying. Started using Reqall on iphone, blackberry and web. Find it to be an excellent product that is quite similar to Jott and Free unless you upgrade to pro.
