Office HUB for Windows Phone 7 looks good

Published

on

Mobility Digest has a look at a short video demo of what Microsoft Office HUB for Windows Phone 7 can do. The first star of the show is one of our favorites, the oft-overlooked OneNote.

The demo is only a minute and a half long and is a mock-up, but shows useful functionality, such as an audio recording being added to OneNote and a comment being inserted into a Word doc. It’s impressive though somewhat bittersweet given that a version of Office was never tailored for the Tablet PC. I’m sure we’ll feel a little extra sting when this turns out to be a killer feature of WP7.

It might just be that I’m just a college student, so I have less use for mobile Office, but what stuck out to me were the transition animations. All those flips looked great, much better than the simple side-swiping I was expecting.

Then again, I’m probably late to the game on this. I haven’t tried out a working Zune HD or seen any other WinPho7 videos, but I imagine there’s previous evidence of such super-flippy action.

yes, those transitions look cool, and I think the scroll transitions are fine, however those used to switch to a different program or completely new area look a bit slow. I don’t know if some of them aren’t too slow if you heavily use your phone. You don’t want to spend half of your time using the phone watching transitions :-) The first week it looks cool, then it gets annoying because you always have to interrupt your work-flow.
Just an opinion, because I never used Win phone 7 I don’t know if my concerns are eligible.

some might say they have a powerful framework for office built already. Wouldnt take too much to extend that framework, add more function, graphics and what do you know a productive suite ready to go for say a tablet running WP7….

The voice recording might be useful if it actually translated it to text
I guess we’ll be waiting til Windows Phone 8 for that feature
