Oppo Find 7: The Best Phone Around That You Can’t Buy in the U.S.

Published

The Samsung Galaxy S5 and upcoming HTC One are both excellent smartphones, but there’s other impressive Android smartphones that will probably never make it to US markets.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has been teasing its latest flagship smartphone, the Find 7, and today it was officially revealed. Offering top-tier specs that blow away anything else available today, the Find 7 is pretty impressive and boasts many features users were hoping for from the Galaxy S5. With a 2560 x 1440 QHD 2k display, and a camera that takes 50MP photos and more.

The Oppo Find 5 and N1 smartphones were wildly successful in China, but have yet to penetrate other markets, even if they could do well against the competition. With multiple impressive phones coming soon in the US, you can’t help but wonder why the Oppo Find 7 isn’t available in the US. While availability wasn’t fully announced, we don’t anticipate it coming to US carriers, officially at least.

Today the company fully announced the new Find 7 smartphone. the 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 QHD 2k resolution display is one of the first of its kind, and has other specs that match and beat the Galaxy S5. Users will have a 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM, not 2 like most of the competition, 32GB of internal storage, 4G LTE, and a large 3,000 mAh battery. The company has integrated a new VOOC Fast Charging technology that enables the battery a quick charge to 75% in just 30 minutes.

If that all didn’t sound that exciting it also features a 13 megapixel SONY camera with a brand new technology capable of taking 10 photos at once. Then selecting the best four images to create one impressive and beautiful 50MP photo. Bringing mobile photography on Android to a brand new level. You’ll also have a 5 megapixel front camera.

All of this is in an excellent package that’s extremely thin, lightweight, and portable, but does have the familiar plastics of most phones. The Oppo Find 7 has a durable aluminum ring around the sides like many Galaxy devices, and offers a large rear-facing speaker.

The Oppo Find 7 hasn’t been announced for any markets aside from China, but given previous releases, it will likely never officially make it to the US market and consumers hands. It could give Samsung, HTC, LG, and even Apple a run for their money, but we’ll likely never see it available from a carrier. That said, it should be available online come mid-April, and some US users may opt to purchase one through those means for use on T-Mobile or AT&T 4G LTE.

In China, the premium Find 7 is priced at 3,498 CNY, roughly $564, and is available tomorrow throughout China. There’s also a lower-end model with slightly more pedestrian specs that will be available at a later date. Would you take this over the iPhone 6 or upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5?

I actually own a Find 5 (Importing FTW), as well as several knockoffs ( I collect knockoffs in any form, I find them hilarious and some will go up in value). I’ve been using the Find 5 for about 6 months and absolutely freaking love it. I can safely assume that the Find 7 will be a beast as well. I think I’ll probably order it in a few weeks and give it a real world spin and see how it compares to the Find 5.

I disagree with the article’s title. The Find 7 will work flawlessly on AT&T and T-Mobile (LTE and all), and you’ll probably be able to buy one from Amazon or Newegg by next month. Nobody is confiscating them at the border, T-Mobile will roll out the red carpet for you, and there’s nothing AT&T can legally do to stop you from buying one and sticking your SIM card into it regardless of how badly they want you to use a crippled phone with a locked bootloader.

You just won’t be able to buy one for $199 with 2-year contract from an official carrier store.

I played with the Find 5 last fall and almost bought one, but decided I couldn’t live without LTE, microSD, or a removable battery — all of which the Find 7 has. The Find 7 ships with Cyanogenmod, and has become the phone nearly everyone at XDA-developers.com has dreamed of… a top-shelf no-compromise best-of-breed phone that’s unlocked and at least as open as a Google Play Edition or Nexus phone.

As a Glass explorer and a full time Apple fanboy, I have been exploring the idea of getting another phone, or something in addition to my iPhone 5 (and soon iPhone 6). AT&T is my provider and I have a grandfather unlimited data plan, so I have to be careful not to do anything (like tethering) to compromise it.

I was curious to see how the last few Android releases went. Samsung Galaxy 5 doesn’t excite me. (and I have a hatred of Android companies not bothering to update their phones with the new OS when they come out, and Samsung is a repeat offender). The new HTC One (M8) looks nice, but I was hoping for a really startling release would be something much more exciting than their previous phone). I really like Oppo and find their blu-ray players to be one of the best in it’s class and easily compares or does better than other brands costing about 5x the price. I’m very curious about the Find 7, and how I could get it to play with my AT&T account(s),

I also have a Verizon account, but this is only for a portable LTE hub.

Any thoughts? Are there any other cool things I should take into consideration, or is should I wait for the Apple iPhone 6 specs and hope that Google does better IOS integration in the future?

Mitch – I believe AT&T treats iPhone data service in their customer’s accounts different from other phones (be it Blackberry, Android or Windows.)

If you try and go to any other brand of phone, I’m almost certain that they would use it to boot you from the grandfathered club.

I’m lucky that T-Mobile has great service where I live. They’ve provided great service, and are much cheaper than AT&T, and a little cheaper than Verizon… while offering more.

What are you talking about? The company store has the us version https://oppostyle.com/14-find-7 granted its the 7a not the 2k version but that will be out about a month after the 7a starts shipping. 500 bucks for a unlocked flagship, looks like the big boys got competition. Oh what about that one plus one phone coming out this April….

On paper the Oppo Find 7 is really the best overall! Better than the Galaxy S5, better than the HTC One ( M8 ), and even better than the Xperia Z2. So I really hope that it will make a great impact! (Global market/consumers) and Just because it really deserve it! !!!!!!!! (Really compliments to Oppo/Find 7)

Yes sir. Totally agree. Biggest competition coming from a commie country. And they fully deserve the accolades and success that is assured.

I want this phone. I may have to import it and use it as my second phone and maybe even sell my Note 2. If someone could give me details on how to import it.

If you want a full USA version type in google search Oppostyle find 7 and follow the prompt. under devices scroll down and click on Find7 Astro Black U.S Version. it says preorder, but after you’ll pay for it it will change to the backorder status. the customer service is not one of the best yet, but they do respond to emails within 24 to 72 hours. and according to them they will start to ship out the devices early July. Hope it helps u .

Anyone know about the DAC specs or audio quality? I’m an audiophile that is looking beyond iPhone DACs. Love their use of the Sabre 32 DAC in their Blu Ray players

I bought the find 5 was very impressed the best I had ever used that was until I got the find 7 and oh my what a phenomenon it is arguably the most impressive device on the market it’s hard ware build quality and styling is second to none and despite the bad press the software is very functional and impressive with plenty to keep you occupied a massive well done to OPPO
