Penultimate Update Improves Adonit Jot Script Stylus Further

Published

I’ve been following and reporting on the Adonit Jot Script Stylus since its debut awhile ago. The Adonit Jot Script Stylus uses BlueTooth LE to pair with the iPad to bring more accuracy to your Digital Inking. The Adonit Jot Script Stylus Evernote Edition was designed to be used with Penultimate, a very popular note taking iOS App, and also has an SDK for other note taking and drawing App developers to make the pen and its features accessible in their Apps. Penultimate is owned by Evernote, and the rollout of the new stylus marketed the combination of App, hardware, and software solution.

Initially I was not impressed with the new, and expensive, stylus.

But it turns out I got a lemon. I received a replacement and things worked much better as I mentioned in this follow up review.

There were still a few glitches in using the Adonit Jot Script Stylus with Penultimate, but given the inexact science of trying to create a more exact Digital Inking experience, I found the newer pen worked much better. Also in my usage The Adonit Jot Script Stylus seemed to perform better with other Apps taking advantage of the SDK.

Now Evernote has rolled out a new update for Penultimate aimed at improving the Adonit Jot Script Stylus experience with its own App. I’m happy to say that the new update seems to have solved the few hiccups that were remaining in using the stylus with Penultimate. In testing I haven’t seen one glitch in the wrist protection scheme, nor have I experienced any skips when Inking very fast. That’s typically how I take notes with a stylus, so that’s a good thing in my case.

So, kudos to the Penultimate team for continuing to hammer away at this in order to create a good Digital Inking experience. Obviously there is a considerable investment in making things work well, given the cost of the product. That investment seems to be paying off.

The new version number of Penultimate is 5.0.2. The App is free and can be obtained via The App Store. The Adonit Jot Script Stylus can be obtained through Adonit, or on the Evernote Marketplace. It costs $74.99.

I just updated to 5.0.2 and the Jot Script still registers any part of my hand touching the screen and not just the stylus.

It would be nice if only the stylus were detected on the lined paper part of the app.

      Owen,

I would strongly suggest you contact Adonit or the Evernote Market and let them know and also ask for an exchange. That’s the experience I was having with the first Jot Script I received and it was solved with a new unit that I exchanged.
