PS4 owners are experiencing the frustration of not being able to play games purchased on disc or on the PSN store and are instead seeing a PS4 Error CE-34878-0 when they try to play games like BattleField 4, Assassin’s Creed 4, KillZone ShadowFall, NBA 2k14 and others on the relatively new PlayStation.

The biggest complaint from PS4 gamers is that they lost hours of gameplay, with some users claiming 40 hours of Assassin’s Creed 4 gameplay lost and 25+ hours of NBA 2k14 gameplay lost due to this error.

If you experience an Application has crashed error CE-34878-0 there are several steps to take to try to fix the problem. In the forums a PlayStation moderator suggests closing the application and installing the latest PS4 update and any game patches. If the error still occurs users should back up saved game data and initialize the PS4. The official Sony support page shows the same information with details on how to Initialize the PS4.

Step 1: Close the application, install the latest system software and game update, and restart the system.

Step 2: If the error occurs again, back up your saved data, and then go to [Settings] > [Initialization] and choose [Initialize PS4].

To back up saved game data user can follow the instructions to upload to online storage or to copy to a USB drive. If you do not do one of these steps before trying to fix PS4 Error CE-34878-0 you will lose progress made on current games.

Sony responded to vg247 telling the publication, “We are aware of the cases and we appreciate your patience while we investigate.” So if the above solution does not fix the PS4 error, Sony may soon have more details on a fix. If this fix does not work, users should contact Sony for more details on what to do. Sony offers live chat and phone support with wait times of 10-15 minutes currently.

    Still would love to have sony release a firmware patch for this error.

    This error keeps occuring with the last of us and metal gear 5 phantom pain. Yes ive initialized my ps4. Pls fix this problem. Its kinda messed up that we pay for all these games just to get a error every 10 min.
