PS4 PlayStation Store Deal Gives Users $15

With high-profile games launching on its PS Vita and PS4 consoles all the time and the launch of the PlayStation TV set-top box just weeks away, Sony is hoping to entice legions of users into investing in new games with a special deal of its own. From today on, PS4, PS3 and PS Vita users can pick up anything in the PlayStation Store that amounts to at least $100 and get $15 in PlayStation Store credit.

Sony announced the new $15 PlayStation Store deal in a post on its PlayStation Blog earlier today. For the most part, the deal is pretty straight forward. The PlayStation Blog is hoping that owners of Sony consoles will use this opportunity to pick up some games that are available in the PlayStation Store, but users can purchase anything that amounts to $100 and get the $15 credit. That means television shows, movies, music and anything else that you can purchase qualifies. That’s key since the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita are all meant to be media hubs as well as gaming consoles on some level.

The catch is that Sony is using the promotion to force users into experimenting with its own SEN Wallet service. In effect, users will have to transfer the amount of money they’re going to spend on content into the SEN Wallet service, once they’ve then spent the funds there, they’ll receive a code from Sony that they can also redeem to add the $15 to their SEN Wallet account.

Users should get their code by November 7th. That’s just a little over a week after the promotion concludes on October 28th. The code will need to be used by December 5th. That’s when the code stops working.

Hurdles aside, it’s a pretty attractive deal for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita users who already planned on spending over $100 in games during the month of October. With one game costing $60 for the PS4 brand new, two new games will be more than enough to get users of the hurdle for the deal. Since the PlayStation Store has a digital pre-order system, users could get themselves over the $100 threshold by pre-ordering the games that they want for the future.

Of course, whether it’s smart to take advantage of the deal comes down to whether users are comfortable with purchasing games digitally instead of from a store like GameStop or Wal-Mart. After all, sales in the PlayStation Store are final and physical games can be traded in later on towards newer titles and accessories.

This PlayStation Store deal is only open to users in the United States, Mexico and Canada. There’s no word on if or when it’ll roll out to PS4, PS3 and PS Vita owners around the world.
