4 Reasons to Install the Pixel Android O Update & 4 Reasons You Shouldn’t
Install for Better Battery Life & Notifications
Two big areas that changed in Android O are battery life and notifications. Of course that's just the beginning, and more will be announced soon. For now though, if you want better battery life and some neat new changes, try Android O today. The full changelog isn't available yet, but these are a few exciting changes we know about right now.
In Android O the software restricts apps from running in the background to better control battery usage. Especially apps that are a lower priority. We've seen similar changes in Android, but this should make the biggest impact. It also limits apps that wake the device or check for location, two big battery drains. Additionally, notifications are better than they were on Nougat. Similar notifications will get bundled together, instead of one long list we have to scroll through. They're also organized by importance with batch lists for convenience. On the Pixel look for small dots on app icons. These are called Notification Dots and a long-press will show you the notification instantly. Rather than pulling down the notification shade. Google also added something called Vitals, which will keep devices running at their best and may double app performance and speed.
