While most of you will want to install the Android O beta right away, many will benefit from waiting a few weeks. Or better yet, wait another few weeks in case the 4th release has any showstopper problems. 

If you aren't prepared for Android O don't install the beta. It's as simple as that. The process will erase your entire device, everything, so keep that in mind. Google just added O to the beta program so updates are sent automatically for those that enroll. This makes it easier for Pixel owners, but we still recommend reading our tips below.

You don't need to follow every single step but at the very least you'll want to make sure all of your important files are properly backed up before you make the move to any new software version. The beta automates the update process, but problems can still surface. Always back up important files ahead of time.
