Samsung Announcing Droid Prime or Galaxy Nexus on October 11th?

Published

on

We’ve heard several times that Ice Cream Sandwich would be arriving in October or November and we’ve even heard former Google CEO Eric Schmidt confirm this to be the case. We also know that Android ICS’ launch device might be Verizon’s version of the rumored Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the Samsung Droid Prime. And we’ve heard a rumored November 3rd release date for the Droid Prime but we expect there to be announcement before that.

Well, Samsung has just announced an Unpacked event for October 11th at CTIA which very well could be the day that Samsung announces one, both or none of the devices that all of you have been waiting for.

Droid

Samsung’s invite reveals nothing specific so we don’t have any sort of a hint as to what the announcement could be about. If it has anything to do with either of these phones, we’d have to say that it’s probably going to be the Droid Prime that is announced.

Assuming the Galaxy Nexus is a Google phone, Google will most likely be the one to announce that. But who knows, maybe Google joins Sammy on the stage and blows our minds?

We’re getting closer folks and that’s extremely exciting. But it also means, with a rumored iPhone 5 announcement on October 4th, that you have some choices to make coming up.

What are you going to be getting?

I’m really excited about the prime.  I feel like a lot of the rumors of calling it a droid prime on vzw and a nexus prime everywhere else are bogus but time will tell.  I won’t even consider an iPhone unless it’s 4G.  If it is,  I’ll consider it.  I’m not totally close-minded but currently I’m leaning towards the prime and all of the specs that can’t be confirmed ;-)

I still have my oooold droid1.  d2/d3 are still asthetically, fairly ugly phone. the bionic?  Its ugly, but not as bad as the d3, imo.  I wouldnt mind having the bionic at all. I hope this ‘prime’ has dropped its bottom lip at the bottom of the phone.  I wish the bionic would have ‘cuz I’d have one right now.   It does  seem like the iPhone5 and this ‘prime’ phone will  be raising the  tech specs on smart phones once again!  I can’t wait to see it.

Totally agree. The Bionic is just too hideous for me to buy. It looks like they didn’t finish designing it so they just sent out the semi finished prototype. Blah. New Sammy will be MUCH sexier:P

The first design for the Bionic was very sleek. Sucks they had to redesign it cuz now it just looks like every other Droid.

how big of a mind fuck would it be to everyone if motomobility said they were making the phone and this all was a big wild goose chase? I mean it won’t but damn what a mind fuck.

In some respects, I’m glad the Bionic and SGSII took their time in being released here.  Had they been available back in June or July, I would have gotten one or the other.  Now I just have to wait a little longer and I can one of the nextgen phones coming out in October and November.  A big phone with HD display, 1.5 ghz dual core processor and just maybe ICS and Beats by Dre.  Sounds sooooo much better than the Bionic with its sound issues and crappy pentile matrix display.

Well atleast I don’t have to keep hitting refresh all day, now there’s a date so I will be waiting not so patiently. I did kinda consider purchasing the bionic after the price dropped but glad I didn’t. This next round of 4g phones will be interesting to see. I think now that the new technology of 4g phones will have all the quirks taken care of and work flawlessly. My x2 has me waving goodbye to moto-major-fail!. Hello prime

tempted to go vigor, but the prime’s samoled+ display may be the kicker.

    Htc thunderbolt 1400 mah (battery)
    Vigor- 1620 mah + (dual core) +
better screen resolution (hd) = same ol deal breaker for me

Does anyone else find the question marks in these article titles exceptionally annoying…aka non-news

With *only* 1620 mAh battery, 1.5 GHz chip, 720p display, and 4G LTE, if it lasts all day on a charge, it’ll mean some amazing efficiencies have been incorporated. Please amaze me, HTC. If they do this and manage to match the vivid display of samoled+, it’s HTC (and Beats) for me. :-)

If Verizon doesn’t rape the android install with it’s horrible bloatware (or, failing that, if I can install the firmware from a actual nexus prime) and I can swap out the Droid Prime faceplate for one from a Nexus Prime, I think I know my next phone.

Droid prime all the way! Why would anyone want an iphone? Apple has enough $$ and all they want to do is go around suing other competition for copyright infringment claims. LONG LIVE OPEN SOURCE!
