Samsung Galaxy Nexus Delayed Due to Patents? (Updated)

Published

on

Last week, Google and Samsung announced that they were delaying the Android Ice Cream Sandwich and thus, the Galaxy Nexus announcement due to the passing of Steve Jobs. The event was originally scheduled to take place on October 11th, today, but has been delayed indefinitely. Well, according to Eldar Murtazin, the delay had nothing to do with Jobs at all.

Instead, it appears that it had to do with the ongoing patent war between Apple and Samsung with Murtazin saying that “Nexus Prime and Android 4.0 are under question” and “Google removing some features which are subject of patent war. No timeline for this job.”

Now, take this with a grain of salt.

Galaxy Nexus

This is the same guy that said that the iPhone 3GS would not be getting iOS 5 so there is definitely a chance that the intel here is wrong. But if he is indeed correct Google and Samsung will take a ton of heat and rightfully so.

I just don’t think we’ll ever know for sure.

Either way, the Galaxy Nexus wasn’t announced today and we’ll just assume that Samsung and Google’s original explanation was the real reason and that we’ll likely see the Galaxy Nexus and Android Ice Cream Sandwich sometime later this month.

Update: Surprise, surprise. It looks like a delay because of patents isn’t the case.

Thanks for grounding your article in reality with how wrong Endar has been in the past.  Too many other sites are just copy/pasting BGR’s article without giving some background on him.

This rumor was squashed before it even was falsely reported. No need to even post it….its pure nonsense.

Not surprised…seems like this Nexus Prime delayed due to patents talk by this guy Elgar is a smear to tarnish a genuine classy move by Google and Samsung in respect of Steve the man who contributed immensely to the tech and cellular environment whether you love or hate him. I think it showed that Google and Samsung though adversaries with Apple in the cellular space don’t take it personally with the individuals involved. In short healthy competition is good for us all…makes for better products in this fast moving cellular industry.
