Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Rumors: Flexible AMOLED Display

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 rumor mill is at work again today and this time, it’s a new rumor about the display on the device that is set to arrive later on this month.

Korea IT Times is reporting, courtesy of Android Central, that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, will in fact, sport flexible AMOLED display technology, a feature that we thought had been dispelled earlier this year.

Samsung has been showing off this kind of display technology at trade shows but it has yet to put the technology to use in a consumer-grade device.

Apparently, the Galaxy Note 2’s flexible display panel will allow for Samsung to put in a bigger battery, something that the Galaxy Note 2 definitely needs.

The company has been rumored to be commercializing the technology for 2012 and it once again appears that the Galaxy Note 2 could be the first device to utilize it.

This is a rumor that had previously surfaced only to be dispelled by another report that claimed that the Galaxy Note 2 would instead just have a regular old AMOLED display.

So, it’s unclear just exactly what is at work here. It may be that Samsung is trying to throw analysts and consumers off of the trail of the Galaxy Note 2 by introducing new rumors.

It’s also possible that the Galaxy Note 2 could actually feature this new type of the technology. Sadly, given how well Samsung is guarding this device’s true nature, we probably won’t find out for sure until August 29th when Samsung is scheduled to introduce the Galaxy Note 2 to the world.

The company has set up an event for that date ahead of the IFA conference in Berlin, the same conference where Samsung introduced the original Galaxy Note last year.

The Galaxy Note 2 could feature a flexible display.

And while the launch date is known, the Galaxy Note 2 still remains a mystery. In addition to the flexible display, the device has been rumored to have a 5.5-inch HD display with 720p resolution, 4G LTE data speeds, a quad-core processor, upgraded cameras and a design similar to the Galaxy S III.

It’s also rumored to have either Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.1 Jelly Bean aboard when it arrives later this month.

No word yet on any sort of specific release date.

It’s a shame Samsung is aiming so low with the Note 2. it’s now expected to have a lower resolution that it’s predecessor??? Pentile AMOLED is always worse than IPS. Sure, the quad core will hit Europe, but what will we see here in the US. No new exynos? No 1080P?

Oh yeah, and what possible beneift would a bendy screen have on a phone? I sure thought that rumor was dead and I hope it stays dead.

The article tells you the benefit of a possible flexible display, more space for a bigger battery. Yay…..reading comprehension is fun!!!!!

      @Matt
Nooooo. All this craziness Samsung *may* be doing. I hate Samsung with a passion as is. This makes me hate them even more. If true, why doesnt the American consumer (at least) create a backlash against Samsung? Is it like the neighbours up North where they pay almost $5.30/gallon for gas while smiling as the gas nozzle is shoved up their arse?

  2. Really?

I don’t see any benefit of a flexible display for a phone either. Maybe for the kiddies.

It’s not so you can bend the phone, it is to make the display more resilient. Unbreakable screens seem like a useful thing, no?

I don’t know why some people are putting down this flexible OLED screen. Why don’t you read up on the benefits of this screen?Plus this article told you one of the benefits. Come on people read. This article just told you thinner phone with bigger battery because the screen wouldn’t take as much room. Now the other benefits. It’s unbreakable, you can look at them smashing it with a hammer on YouTube. The screen doesn’t even distort in any way when the hammer hits it. So now if you drop your phone, you don’t have to worry about the screen smashing. You also wouldn’t have to worry about scratching it either. It’s also the next step in screen technology. You would be able to use it for wall paper like you seen on the original Total Recall. Or like a rolled up Atlas map like you seen on Babylon AD with Vin Diesel, instead of a big book. It would have all the maps preloaded so you wouldn’t have to worry about you having network or not. If you didn’t have a phone, didn’t want to use your phone, and or didnt have a GPS. So how about you people start thinking outside of the box instead of criticizing about what’s the point of having a flexible screen. If you don’t want it the DON’T buy the phone. I for one would love to have the flexible OLED screen and it being 10801080p with aa 2GHz quad core processor, 2G of RAM, 32 or 64 bit internal memory, a 64 bit expandable memory, on a 5.5 inch screen. But one can only dream. They are never going to make a perfect phone because they want people to keep getting new ones.

SAMSUNG will NOT make the perfect phone but Apple will. #Boycott Samsung.

Apple blows, only their legions of Apple Zombies care what they make.

Nothing about the iPhone 5 is better than anything any Android phone has come out with in the last year. None of the new features are useful or better to anyone but the Apple corporation. New quad processor? Already in Droid devices. Smaller SIM? Who cares? Apple just wants everyone to use their format, as usual. New, slightly bigger 4″ 640 x 1136 screen? Still tiny, and not only is it still not 720p, most high end phones *already* have that beat. Smaller dock connector? This one actively pisses me off. Not only are they obsoleting every device that uses their old connector, they’ve change to a new plug that is STILL PROPRIETARY, rather than using the perfectly capable standard USB connector that everyone else uses for everything. F**k you and your stubbornly and pointlessly proprietary crap, Apple. If I’m going to boycott anyone, it’s them.

I for one am very excited abou the new Note 2. I have been paitiently waiting for my contract to be up in November. That is when I planned on upgrading to the Note. Now I am confused as which to get. I will have to do some comparisons on the 2 once the Note 2 is announced. Can’t wait!!!

If you’rfe smart, you will wait. That’s what I have to do now. Hopefully HTC or Google (Motorola) will come up with a good alternative.
