Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Breakdown

Published

on

In early January, Samsung started pushing out the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update. Since then, we’ve seen the update make strides but its roll out still isn’t complete nearly six months later. With Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat release details still swirling, we want to take a dive into the update and breakdown everything there is to know.

Android 4.4 KitKat is Google’s latest Android update and an update that has been out since mid-November. The update, which first hit Google’s Nexus devices, is gradually pushing out to Android owners across the planet as manufacturers work to keep their smartphone and tablet lineups fresh. One such device is the Galaxy Note 3, Samsung’s latest Galaxy Note and a device that remains on shelves alongside the Galaxy S5.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update has been pushing out since January but like many Samsung Galaxy Android updates before it, it has yet to complete more than five months after the first roll out.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is now live and active in places like the United States but there are still other regions that are waiting for the new features, fixes and enhancements that Samsung’s latest Galaxy Note 3 upgrade brings to the table. Android 4.4 KitKat may not be the biggest and best update that Google’s ever released but it’s an important update for devices like the Galaxy Note 3.

In an effort to provide as much clarity as we can to Samsung Galaxy Note 3 owners in the United States and around the world, we detail everything we know about the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update and breakdown the important details that all owners need to know about right now.

Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 Releases in June

Believe or not, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is still rolling out. It has been weeks since we saw it start pushing out in major regions like the United States and Canada but it’s going to take time for it to land in smaller markets.

In June alone we’ve seen several Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates push out. We’ve heard that the SM-N900 Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 update recently pushed out in Jamaica, Israel and Uruguay. According to SamFirmware, the update also has reached SM-N9005 owners in Uzbekistan, Papua New Guinea, and Hong Kong.

What’s clear is that this is an update that has slowed down dramatically in the last few weeks. May saw a number of Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates emerge. They’ve simply been more scarce and more sporadic in June. That’s a good sign because it means that Samsung is finally moving towards the end of the roll out.

At this point, there is a good chance that we’ll see the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update finish in July though we wouldn’t be shocked if there were some stragglers in August or later. That’s just how Samsung updates go.

Upcoming Galaxy Note 3 KitKat Updates

There are a few carriers that openly communicate about Android update plans and thanks to these carriers, we know that their are several Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates planned for June and July.

Australian carriers, for whatever reason, are well behind the curve when it comes to the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update. They’re also some of the only carriers that are open with their customers. Aussie carrier Optus claims that its two Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates will land in late June or early July, no date given.

Remember, these are ETAs. Releases depend on internal testing at Samsung and in carrier labs and if a piece of software doesn’t perform well, its ETA is postponed. This goes for every single carrier around the world, not just these Australian providers.

Telstra recently announced that it plans to push its Galaxy Note 3 update live in July and Vodafone Australia says that it still plans to get its Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates out in late June.

These are a few of the big name updates that remain and from the look of things, we should see most Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates land by the time July ends. Australian carriers don’t speak for all of the missing updates but there is a good chance that they will be near the end of the pack.

Missing Galaxy Note 3 KitKat Updates

Fortunately, most Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates have either been announced or have rolled out so we simply aren’t seeing the same glaring absences that we’ve seen from the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates. The Galaxy Note 3 update is in much better shape and we would not be surprised if its roll out finished ahead of Samsung’s other major roll outs.

Android 4.4.3 & What’s Next

Android 4.4.3 KitKat is a huge bug fix update aimed at tackling Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems but it’s not clear if the update will be landing for the Galaxy Note 3 down the road.

Rumors point to a release for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 and we’ve heard that Samsung might skip Android 4.4.2 for Android 4.4.3 on some devices but nothing is confirmed at this point. What we’re quite sure of though is that Android 4.4.2 will not be the last major Android update for the Galaxy Note 3.

Rumors have also hinted at an Android 4.5 or Android 5.0 release alongside a new Nexus 8 tablet from HTC. With Google I/O coming up, we could definitely see Google announce something new for Android users. It’s also possible that Google will keep its usual July release window for its Nexus tablet. We’re still not sure. There is also a chance that it could get Android 4.4.3 before Google’s next release.

Whatever the case is, we know that it’s getting something down the road. The Galaxy Note 3 isn’t even a year old. Google recommends 18 months of software support and Samsung usually offers 24 months so there is virtually no chance that the powerful Samsung Galaxy Note 3 gets left behind on Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.3 KitKat or otherwise.

It has a long life left ahead of it, it’s just not clear what’s next.

I have the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 and received the 4.4.3 “downgrade.” It’s made my Micro SD card virtually useless. Way to go Verizon and Samsung!! I’m not the only one with this problem. There are hundreds of threads online with the same issue but no answers other than that’s the way they designed it. Really???? If they were trying to fix an issue, which some threads say, they should have found a way to do it without ruining currently installed applications use of the card and the inability to change various things like filenames on the card.

If Samsung knew the damage their doing to trying to get people to buy the note 4 that will come out September they thought wrong.my phone is ruined and they know it you can’t stop it from pushing into your phone. Over 128 bugs in 4.4.2 and Verizon could at least pull it from their servers like at&t..no more androids for me .apple better have enough phones ready September when iPhone 6 is released..thanks samsung..Verizon and google..I got more trouble come this fall that you can handle..

I’m pleased with my Verizon Galaxy Note 3. I bought it late last month as that was when my contract was over and I renewed it. I noticed, however, that my battery was draining quickly. I Googled this issue and see if there was a problem with the phone or if it was me. I had the power saving mode on and it still drained the battery life, upon looking online I saw that there was a performance issue with the 4.4.2 update. I heard that the new 4.4.3 update fixed it in an article that the UK had gotten the new update on their Note 3 in early July. I hope that Verizon and the US will get the new update soon, it got released not even a year ago, if they skip the update on the phone I do hope 5.0 will come out on the phones soon, if not then idk what to do. I love my Note 3, I just want the battery life to be better.

I ha that4e had nothing but constant issues with this new update. The update is horrible and I am a Samsung advocate, but this is really making me consider switching over to the dark side (Apple).the sad part about it is that Samsung any of the US carriers are doing nothing about this humongous issue. I was really excited about the Note4,now I’m thinking about switching to the iPhone 6.
