Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Rumors Take Another Twist

Published

on

Previously, rumors had suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 might come with Samsung’s Youm flexible display technology, technology that it introduced at CES 2013. However, a new report suggests that Samsung Youm may be facing delays which could put an arrival on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in doubt.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which is rumored to be replacing the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 later this year, has been rumored to feature a massive display that could potentially border on 6-inches in size. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 display is 5.5-inches in size, much larger than typical smartphones including the iPhone which has a 4-inch display.

The Galaxy Note 3’s rumored flexible display could be in doubt.

Galaxy Note 3 rumors have suggested that Samsung may be employing its Samsung Youm technology on the new phablet which would mean that it would come with an unbreakable, flexible display. Samsung showed off Youm once again at CES 2013 alongside its new Exynos 5 Octa processor which will be heading to shelves in some variants of the Galaxy S4. The arrival of the Exynos 5 Octa seemed to point to a possibility of flexible display technology coming this year, and possibly with the Galaxy Note 3.

However, according to Korean publication ETNews, Samsung’s flexible display technology may have hit a snag due to issues with encapsulation technology which helps to protect the display from damage from elements like moisture. OLED displays in particular are susceptible to damage and that means that Samsung Youm in particular is reliant upon encapsulation for protection. It appears that Samsung is trying to figure out how it can replace its current technology.

It’s unclear just how this might affect the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 but it’s certainly possible that any issues Samsung is having with flexible displays could potentially push back the arrival of a flexible display in a Galaxy Note until 2014.

Of course, any delay with flexible display technology will likely not affect the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 itself. Samsung typically releases a new device per year and it may just be that the company is forced to release a Galaxy Note 3 with an ordinary display.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is currently rumored for arrival in September, potentially at the IFA 2013 conference in Berlin. Samsung has in the past introduced its Galaxy Note models in Germany during the event so it’s no surprise that IFA is once again pegged as a Galaxy Note launch window.

As for the device itself, besides the flexible display rumors, it has been thought to have a Exynos 5 Octa processor, a feature called Samsung Orb and quite possibly, an upgraded S Pen stylus.

I dont see how a galaxy note could ever have a flexable display…the notes have Wacom sensor boards…..unless Wacom can make a flexiable sensor board, they couldnt make a Note flexiable without getting rid of the s-pen.

Just because they say it has a flexible screen doesn’t necessarily mean it will be bendable. They may be more referring to the unbreakable, or un crackable, benefits to having a flexible screen in a rigid body

it would be great if come with flexible display.. but coz of that issue, maybe the note will come using the same screen as S4.. please dont bigger than 6 inch.. i think if stick to 5,5 or 5,6 its ok.. and please put 2 speaker instead of 1.. i dont care using plastic or not.. but please change the design.. =)
