Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Ships With Magic Barcode Tech

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 ships with barcode technology that arrived on the Galaxy S4 last March that lets it scanners at almost every store scan loyalty cards and gift cards from the screen.

This new technology arrives on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 as a standalone Beep’nGo app users can download and is also integrated into Samsung Wallet.

Samsung Wallet launched soon after the Galaxy S4 as a Passbook style app for Samsung smartphones and starting with the Galaxy Note 3 Mobeam’s technology lets apps that connect to the Samsung Wallet deliver scannable barcodes at any point of sale.

Check out the Galaxy Note 3 technology in action in the video below where a shopper uses a Samsung smartphone to swipe a loyalty card on a grocery store scanner and then a gift card to pay without grabbing their physical wallet. The app can also beam coupon barcodes to scanners.

Many scanners at retail stores have trouble reading the backlit displays on smartphones, so rather than rely on passive reading or forcing users to worry if the scanner is one that will work with a smartphone, Mobeam’s technology actively sends the 1’s and 0’s from the barcode to the scanner so it will work on 100% of POS systems in the world, according to Mobeam CEO Kang Lee.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 include technology that works with almost every barcode scanner.

This new technology in the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 means users don’t need to worry about whether a barcode scanner will work when they are in line.

To use the app, Note 3 and Galaxy S4 users will select a loyalty card or gift card from their wallet in the Beepn’Go app and press the beam button to prepare the scanning. When placed overtop of the scanner the Galaxy Note 3 will send the information to the scanner.

The Mobeam BeepnGo app is available in Google Play now for the Galaxy S4 and will be available for the Galaxy Note 3 in all countries when it arrives later this year. Mobeam is only available on Samsung devices, but users can sign up to be notified when it comes to other phones in the near future.

Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 3 at a special Unpacked event in Berlin today. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 includes a larger display and a new design with thin bezels that allows Samsung to deliver the bigger screen in a package that is not much larger than the Galaxy Note 2.
