Galaxy Note Edge Release Date (U.S.): What Not to Expect

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge U.S. release date remains elusive a month after launch. With Galaxy Note Edge release details emerging left and right, we want to take a look at what we expect from the device’s upcoming release in the United States.

A month ago, Samsung executives took the stage and announced a slew of new products including a brand new Galaxy Note 4 and a brand new product line called Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note 4 will be the true successor to last year’s Galaxy Note 3 and it will go on sale with a number of high-powered features starting in mid-October. The Galaxy Note Edge, a device that shares a lot in common with the Galaxy Note 4, will also deliver some explosive specs including a bent display.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone and one that should be intriguing to those that are looking to upgrade to a high-end smartphone. The new Galaxy Note Edge features a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus and a display unlike any other.

The device is one of the more intriguing devices left in 2014 though it’s a device that is still without a firm release date in the United States. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon have called confirmed the Galaxy Note Edge for arrival though none of them have been willing to commit to a specific release date this fall.

With that in mind, we want to lay out what we expect from the Galaxy Note Edge release date in the United States. The U.S. is a key market for Samsung and it’s a market that could be among the first to get Samsung’s brand new flagship. Here is what we do not expect from the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date in the United States.

Different Release Date Announcement Dates

First, we don’t expect U.S. carriers to make their Galaxy Note Edge release date announcements on drastically different dates. We should see something similar to what we saw with the Galaxy Note 4. An announcement from Samsung itself and then confirmation from individual carriers on their press sites and on Twitter.

Do not expect the announcements to fall on different dates and if we do see Samsung stray from the norm, we’d expect them to be clustered close together in the same week. You should get all of your Galaxy Note Edge release date details at once.

Zero Release Date Warning

We probably won’t see carriers announce their release date announcement dates ahead of time, that would be overkill, but we should see FCC filings tip their cards in advance.

In September, we saw the Galaxy Note 4 cruise through the FCC. A few days after the last one passed, we saw Samsung and its partners announce all of the pertinent Galaxy Note 4 release date information. We’ve seen a number of Galaxy Note Edge models pass on through the FCC but we have yet to see a U.S. bound model get certified.

When they do pass through, and they will need to before they can hit shelves, we’ll let you know. The announcements should come shortly after the last one cruises out of the FCC’s clutches.

No Way to Pre-Order

This is an Android smartphone. We don’t expect carriers to pass on a pre-order process because U.S. carriers never pass on pre-orders for Android devices. There will almost certainly be some way to order early, whether it’s through a retailer on Amazon or from carriers themselves, and we should find out the dates when Samsung announces the release date for the Galaxy Note Edge.

Galaxy Note Edge Release Date in 2015

So how about the Galaxy Note Edge release date itself? Well, we still haven’t seen one confirmed though Samsung did confirm a release for the U.S. later this year. With all of the activity that we’ve seen behind the scenes with filings and certifications, the fact that we haven’t heard about any delays, and the fact that the U.S. is a key battleground, we should see a release date in the near future.

Do not expect the U.S. to follow in the footsteps of Canada’s 2015 Galaxy Note Edge release date. It’s too important of a market and it was one of the few places to confirm Galaxy Note Edge release in September. It will almost certainly be among the first to get this concept smartphone and buyers should feel confident about a release this year.

Galaxy Note Release Date Far Outside October

With the Galaxy Note Edge expected to hit Korea and Japan in late October, we can’t see the U.S. getting it much later than that. There are a few reasons for that.

First, the U.S. is a huge market and an extremely competitive one. In order to have success in the United States, Samsung is going to have to get this phone out before Black Friday at the end of November. That’s the start of the holiday shopping season and a key date for American shoppers. It’s also key for marketing purposes. There are simply tons of eyes out at malls and retail stores.

December is way too late for this device. We’ll be months removed from the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus release, Galaxy Note 4 deals will be in full swing, and we’ll probably have a Nexus 6 on shelves as well. In order to stay competitive, it needs to get this phone out fairly soon. We would be shocked if the U.S. was way off the current pace.

Huge Gap in Release Dates

Do not expect a huge gap between U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release dates. If Samsung and its partners use a staggered release, we still wouldn’t expect the release dates to be too far off from one another. The most likely scenario is one single release date, similar to the Galaxy Note 4. This is both fair and attractive to consumers because it won’t confuse.

Surprise U.S. Carriers

Do not expect any surprise U.S. Galaxy Note Edge carriers to emerge. The Galaxy Note series has always stuck to the major U.S. carriers and the Galaxy Note Edge is even more niche, and perhaps more expensive, than the plain old Galaxy Note. We doubt smaller carriers will take a chance on the Galaxy Note Edge and it even looks like U.S. Cellular, the nation’s fifth largest carrier, might be out.

We’re not expecting any smaller carriers to step up in the weeks after this device’s arrival. We should see the device stick to the main four. A U.S. Cellular release at this point would be a huge shock.

Surprise Color Options

The Galaxy Note Edge is coming in white and black on release day. Don’t expect any surprise colors from Samsung. This is a limited release and it’s a device that reportedly is difficult to make so we can’t see Samsung messing around with different colors. At the very best, we could see a new color or two arriving down the road but that’s even a stretch at this point. Black and white will rule the day here.

Storage Surprises

Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge was announced in 32GB and 64GB form. We highly, highly, highly doubt that it will produce both models for the United States. We don’t expect anything other than the 32GB model, a model that would mirror the 32GB Galaxy Note 4. That’s a ton of storage when you consider the microSD card slot. Don’t expect anything surprising here.

I can’t believe that Samsung has not given us an idea of the date yet……

I almost fell backwards when I entered the Best Buy at Doral/ Miami FL this morning Oct 2nd and they have a live workable model of the phone in the Samsung Area within the store….WOOOOOOWWWWWW …..it is indeed an incredible looking smartphone — All the pics that I have seen do not give it any justice – No one knows anything about pre-orders…etc etc….

I CANT WAIT TO HAVE ONE – IT’S BEAUTIFUL !!!!!

Please stop writing repetitive articles about the Edge not being released and then copying and pasting the specs from the previous 100 articles everyone has written already. If you don’t have a U.S. release date or preorder information….leave it alone! You’re stressing me out! I have never been one to want a phone on its launch day, leave it to my luck i had to choose this (amazing) phone for me to start with!!!

This article get listed as “new” every single day without a single update to it.
Same information about specs etc.. today that was in the article 3 weeks ago.

Please stop listing this article as “updated” or “new”.. Same old out dated information.

My concern is that a limited amount of the Galaxy Note Edge will be released. I have owned the Galaxy Note 2 and currently have the Note 3. The only reason I am not planning to purchase the Note 4 is because I would rather have the Edge. But will they have enough phones that I can purchase one through my carrier, T-Mobile? If I don’t hear a release date by the end of October, I’ll get the Note 4, its a very nice phone.

I asked the Samsung Experience expert at the store in my neighborhood in Los Angeles if he heard any release date details and he said November 28 with carrier announcements hopefully by the end of October. Totally unconfirmed but hopefully true.

Agree with V.i.nce. Useless article without date. Boring repetititions just to get users browse their web and get ad views.
