Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Problem Emerges as Android 4.4 Looms

Published

on

One of the few remaining Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates hit a snag today and the carrier behind the update says that the critical issue will push the missing Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update release into the month of March, the same month that Android 4.4 KitKat could start rolling out for the former flagship.

Since November, Samsung and its carrier partners have been pushing out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, a major update for the Galaxy S3 due to features like Samsung KNOX and because the update delivers compatibility for the company’s Samsung Galaxy Gear accessory. And while the update has been finished in the United States since December, there are still some carriers that are behind the curve.

Gotta Be Mobile is tracking down the remaining Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates in an effort to keep customers informed. Today, new information emerged for owners of the Galaxy S3 on Optus, a small carrier located in Australia.

In an update to its software schedule, Optus says that the Galaxy S3 3G Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update encountered a critical issue in testing and that it will be pushed into the month of March. The carrier does not offer a specific date, only that the update will land in at some point in the early or middle part of the month. The carrier originally said that the update would touch down in late February or early March so this is just a little bit of a snag.

The carrier also now says that its Galaxy S3 4G Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, which also remains missing, will be rolling out during the month of March, no specific release window given.

Optus isn’t the only one having issues with the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update either. ThreeUK admittedly has had problems with the update as well, problems that forced the carrier to return to the lab. Like Optus, the carrier will need to test another build in an effort to ensure a stable release for its customers. ThreeUK, unfortunately, has not produced any time frame for its Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 users. Both devices remain on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

These progress reports come just a week after Samsung confirmed the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates for the United States. The company did not say when the updates would be arriving though rumors point to an arrival during March or April.

The Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update itself already hit a snag as Samsung Poland claims that the 1GB version of the Galaxy S3 will not get the update, at least not in Poland. This decision could potentially impact carriers around the world, including Optus and ThreeUK.

It also could mean that the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Galaxy S3 will begin before Samsung is able to roll out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to all of its Galaxy S3 variants.

Hello. I would like to know what do you know about the updates here in Colombia. Today I went to Claro (my phone carrier), and they said that the 4.3 update is supposedly rolling out next week, but I would like it very much if you could give me some light about this topic here in Colombia. Thanks!!!

You gotta reload your ROM back into the phone. Make sure it’s the same carrier for the phone before you Odin up date it. Google how to.

I received the 4.3 update yesterday on Cell C in South Africa and the phone app itself doesn’t work. Message is “Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped.” I can dial from contacts though, but I can’t dial manually.

Just wanted to point out that I’m on Three, and I received my update a week ago. My battery life has improved, I do switch off screen rotation when I’m not using my, and it makes a hell of a difference!
