Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Release: New Details

Published

on

With the Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update ongoing, it’s no surprise that Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat release details continue to emerge for those that are still running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the update that the Galaxy S4 received towards the tail end of last year.

In February, Samsung started pushing out the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update. The update first landed inside the United States and soon after, the highly anticipated update starting landing for other Galaxy S4 owners around the world, delivering Android 4.4 KitKat update features and more.

While the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update came flying out of the gates, the past two weeks have been relatively slow. We haven’t seen many updates roll out and details about missing updates were scarce. Today though, we’ve seen two brand new update details emerge. And while some Galaxy S4 owners will be breathing a sigh of relief, others are going to be a little frustrated with today’s revelations.

French carrier SFR confirmed today that it plans to roll out its Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update at some point in April. It does not confirm a specific release date. Given that the carrier originally said that it planned to roll the update out in March, we imagine that the carrier is moving closer to the software’s release.

Carriers like SFR typically do not release specific release dates due to the testing process. Android software updates have a habit of prolonging the testing process thanks to bugs and issues.

Unfortunately, it’s not all good news. Australian carrier Optus has encountered a setback with its Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update. The carrier, which originally said that it planned to roll out the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update in April, has been forced to revise its schedule and now says that it currently doesn’t have an ETA for the software update.

The carrier says that it still hasn’t received the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update from Samsung which means that the release could be several weeks away at least, assuming it doesn’t encounter any delays in the testing process. Once Optus receives the update, we expect it to issue an update about its timing. For now, Galaxy S4 owners will be marching into April in the dark.

The same can be said about Verizon Galaxy S4 Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update in the United States, However, unlike Optus, Verizon has yet to issue any specific information about its Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update and its release.

Smaller carriers in the United States including C Spire Wireless, Cricket Wireless, and MetroPCS still haven’t confirmed Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates though there is a very good chance that all three of them, like SFR and Optus, will roll out their versions of the software.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is still an extremely new device and is in no danger of missing out on an update as small as Android 4.4 KitKat. All of these updates are expected to deliver Android 4.4 KitKat update features and no much else.

Verizon is holding out until they release the galaxy s5 on April 14, 2014. I can promise you that no one will get the update on verizon until the official Galaxy S5 release.
