Samsung Galaxy S4 Design Again Rumored to Be Plastic

Published

on

Despite competitors like the HTC One and iPhone 5 using higher end materials like aluminum, glass and metal for their designs, Samsung will evidently keep to its roots and stick to a plastic Samsung Galaxy S4 design instead of opting to use different build materials.

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is one of the most heavily rumored devices of the year and consumers expect it to arrive at a launch event on March 14th at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City. And while many of its features have seemingly been revealed including a full HD 1080p display, quad-core processor, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and more, the actual device itself has seemingly remained in the shadows.

Previous rumors have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will adopt a design similar to the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 8.0 and use plastic materials that Samsung is known for. And now, it seems that a Samsung executive may have all but confirmed that to be the case.

In comments made to CNET, Samsung executive Y.H. Lee has hinted that the Samsung Galaxy S4 design will, like the Galaxy S3, be made out of plastic materials. Part of the reason that Samsung has adopted this design is so that it can pump out millions of devices in any given year. So far, the Galaxy S3 has sold over 40 million units around the globe. In addition, Lee also says that the plastic is durable because of its flexibility.

Lee also says that the company has gone back and forth about the removable back on the device which allows users to take out the stock battery to replace it with an extended one.

And while Lee doesn’t come out and say that the Galaxy S4 will feature a plastic design with a removable back, the executive says that the company has found a nice balance between a high-end design and a practical design.

Earlier this week, we heard that the Galaxy S4 will indeed be coming with a plastic design just like the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2. If true, it means that the Galaxy S4 will be coming to market with competitors like the HTC One and iPhone 5 utilizing premium designs constructed out of materials such as metal and glass.

Whether that has a big impact on the device remains to be seen but the Galaxy S3 featured a plastic design and it sold extremely well against the iPhone 4S, which featured metal and glass and the iPhone 5 as well.

All will be revealed at the event on March 14th wherein Samsung is expected to take the curtain down on the Next Big Thing, assumed to be the Samsung Galaxy S4.
