Samsung Galaxy S4 Features, Specs and Possible Photo Leak

on

The Samsung Galaxy S4 launch event is set for March 14th in New York City, and the latest rumors claim to reveal the full Galaxy S4 specs which don’t include a Samsung Exynos processor or Super AMOLED display. We also get a look at what may be the first photo of the Samsung Galaxy S4 with a massive display and hints of the Galaxy S4 design.

Nothing is certain until Samsung takes the stage on March 14th, but according to sources Samsung will not use the company’s own Exynos Octa 5 processor or a Samsung Super AMOLED display in the Galaxy S4.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Features

SamMobile reports that their source, who shares what is likely the first photo of the Galaxy S4, claims that Samsung will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, which we shared last week. This would not be the first time that Samsung opted for a Qualcomm processor instead of one of their own, but it is surprising given the social media push behind the Exynos Octa 5. The Samsung Galaxy S3 uses a Qualcomm processor in the U.S. and several Galaxy S4 benchmarks include a 1.9GHz Qualcomm processor.

The source also claims the Galaxy S4 will not feature a Samsung AMOLED display, like the one Samsung showed off at CES 2013. In January Samsung showed off a 4.99-inch 1080P Full HD display using Super AMOLED technology. In fact earlier this month rumors indicated that Samsung Display would be ready to start mass production of the display in February, to prepare for a March Samsung Galaxy S4 launch. The new rumor claims Samsung will opt for a SoLux Display with LCD technology. It is not clear if this rumored change is tied to the possibility of a touch free display like the one shown below.

Also included in the leak are a new set of rumored Galaxy S4 specs,

  • 4,99″ Full-HD SoLux Display
  • Snapdragon 600 1.9 Ghz
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 16, 32 or 64 GB
  • 13 Megapixel
  • Removable battery

The HTC One also uses the Snapdragon 600 processor and will hit shelves in late March, shortly after the Galaxy S4 announcement.

Possible Galaxy S4 photo shows a peak at the Galaxy S4 design.

The looks of the Samsung Galaxy S4 remain a mystery as the launch date approaches, but the SamMobile source includes a photo of the Galaxy S4 to add authenticity to his claims. The dark photos mainly shows the Galaxy S4 boot screen, with the “Samsung Galaxy S IV” name and the “GT-I9500” Galaxy S4 model number.

What little we can ascertain from the Galaxy S4 photo is that the corners appear more square than the Galaxy S3, sharing more in common with the Galaxy Note 2. While the photo does not show much more, the source claims the Samsung Galaxy S4 features aluminum sides with a plastic back.

Galaxy S4 vs. Galaxy S3 vs. Galaxy Note 2. Vs iPhone 5

If the source is correct the Samsung Galaxy S4 is only slightly thicker than the iPhone 5 at 7.7mm thick. The iPhone 5 debuted last year at 7.6mm thick. The full Galaxy S4 dimensions are rumored as 140.1 x 71.8 x 7.7mm

The Galaxy S4 may weigh in at 138 gram, which is slightly heavier than the Galaxy S3. Here are comparisons to other popular smartphones.

  • Samsung Galaxy S4 – 138 gram
  • Samsung Galaxy S3 – 133 gram
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – 183 gram
  • Apple iPhone 5 – 112 gram

It is very likely that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will come in black and white models and that there will be a physical home button and plastic touch buttons like the current Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 designs.

The Galaxy SIII is already a great phone, and I’m excited to see what new features Samsung integrates into the new version. I sure hope that the rumored 1080p display turns out to be a reality. It would be great to be able to watch my live and recorded shows on my phone while I’m commuting to work at DISH. I’ve got the DISH Anywhere app on my phone, which lets me stream anywhere I go, and I think it would work perfectly with the dull HD display.
