Samsung Galaxy S4 Price Drops $31 on AT&T

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is now just $168 for new AT&T customers, marking a $31 price drop for the 16GB AT&T Galaxy S4 — and users can pre-order the Galaxy S4 at their local Walmart.

This is the lowest Samsung Galaxy S4 price we’ve seen, almost $100 cheaper than the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 for current Sprint subscribers.

We previously reported that the Samsung Galaxy S4 on Walmart was $189, but the company dropped the price again, keeping true to the Rolllback pricing scheme, to deliver a 16% discount on the Samsung Galaxy S4.

The first big Samsung Galaxy S4 deal arrives days ahead of the release.

Walmart offers the Samsung Galaxy S4 in Black Mist and White Frost for $168 as a pre-order with a two-year contract. Users can pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S4 on AT&T at one of 3,500 Walmart locations or online at Walmart Wireless.

The in-store Walmart Samsung Galaxy S4 deal comes with a free $4.99 credit on VUDU, offering users a free movie rental on their new Galaxy S4. Like many in store pre-order setups, Walmart sells a user a $25 Walmart gift card which can be applied to the phone purchase or used on anything else at Walmart.

Walmart is only taking Galaxy S4 pre-orders for AT&T online at this time, but the company sells devices from Verizon, AT&T and Sprint.

In Walmart’s release announcing the Galaxy S4 deal, the company tells shoppers the third step is to activate the Samsung Galaxy S4 on AT&T, T-Mobile or Sprint, which means we may see this price available for all three carriers. Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-orders start tomorrow, so we may see an online ordering option appear then.

Unfortunately, Walmart is not guaranteeing the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be in stock on the release date for each carrier, which ranges from April 26th to May 1st, but that orders are processed on a first come first served basis.

Walmart is also selling the Samsung Galaxy S3 for $39.88 with a two-year contract on AT&T and Verizon, but users should consider the Samsung Galaxy S4 over the Galaxy S3.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is set to arrive on seven U.S. carriers starting in April. We are still waiting on a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 release date, pricing and pre-order announcement, but the rest of the major carriers are already offering up details.

Samsung includes a 5-inch 1080P HD display in the Galaxy S4 and a 13MP rear-facing camera with the option to use it at the same time as a front facing camera. The Samsung Galaxy S4 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor and comes with 2GB of RAM and in storage options from 16GB to 64GB, though carrier selection varies.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 runs Android 4.2.2 with a TouchWiz skin and a collection of software features made possible by the many sensors inside the device. These include motion control, eye-tracking and the ability to hover a finger over the display to preview messages, photos and more. The Galaxy S4 also allows users to use Multi View, which puts two apps on the screen at the same time.

So I just did the math on this. It will ACTUALLY cost you about $25 MORE to buy it from Walmart than say Costco. Let me explain. $168 + $31 activation fee Total = $199. Plus you have to buy a $25 Walmart gift card which can not be applied towards the purchase of the phone. So you are guaranteeing Walmart an EXTRA $25.

Costco on the other hand will be $199 (I assume) and they waive the activation fee. Plus they give you a free travel charger, extra headphones and a bluetooth head set. Not that these accessories are all that valuable, but at least I’m not spending and extra $25.

I’ll wait till launch day and check out Sams Club, maybe they’ll do the $168 price and waive activation without the $25 gift card requirement. Then we’re talking a good deal!!

Anyone else want to check it out. http://www.walmart.com/wireless

Alright, sorry for all these posting, Josh, feel free to kill my first two. I went through the whole purchase process and didn’t see where it says you have to buy a $25 gift card. But I would believe you do. According to Josh you can use the card to pay for the phone.

But the math is still fuzzy. Costco will be a better deal (or anyone else who waives activation). Walmart $168 + $36 activation (not $31 as stated earlier). Brings the price to $204 (plus tax).

Costco is $199 (plus tax) and you get the free accessories. No activation fee. I’m still waiting till launch day. I would bet that Sams Club and or Best Buy will have some deal too!
