Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update Hits U.S.

Published

on

After weeks of silence, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is rolling out in the United States though it’s currently limited to just one major device. The Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop update represents the first Galaxy Android 5.0 update in the U.S. though it certainly will not be the last update to push out for U.S. Galaxy users.

At the tail end of last year. Samsung started rolling out its first Galaxy Android 5.0 update. Unsurprisingly, the company’s first update was the Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update. The update didn’t come as much of a surprise given that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the company’s current Galaxy S flagship and Samsung typically rolls out updates for its flagship models in the early goings.

Over the past two months or so, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 update has pushed to numerous users though up until today, the update was limited to the international variant, also known as the SM-G900F. Today, the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is finally pushing to a new model and Verizon users in the United States are the lucky recipients of Samsung’s brand new operating system.

The Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is rolling out today and Verizon’s posted documents on its website to reflect the roll out. The update is build VRU1BNLC and it’s a massive update for Verizon’s Galaxy S5 bringing an assortment of changes, fixes and enhancements to the company’s current flagship Samsung smartphone.

We’ve heard that the update is actually pushing out today so Verizon Galaxy S5 users who wish to upgrade will want to keep an eye out for a notification. Users can also check through the device’s settings to see if the update is available. If it is, it will prompt, and the download and installation process will initiate. The entire process will take some time due to the size of the update.

This Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update represents the company’s first roll out in the United States though other carriers, including AT&T and Sprint, are expected to push out Android 5.0 Lollipop for their Galaxy S5 variants as well. U.S. carriers remain silent about their plans though it does look like we’ll see a big push during the month of February.

Galaxy S5 Review - 13

French carrier SFR says that it plans to update the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 with Lollipop sometime this month. It does not outline any specific dates and the carrier’s release dates serve only as ETAs. SFR originally said that it planned to push the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update in December and the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update in January but those clearly didn’t work out. What’s clear though is that other carriers have roll outs planned for February so we should see the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update spread.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 update still isn’t rolling out though it looks like we could see the update push out very soon. Several weeks ago, we noticed that Samsung had begun updating its Galaxy Note 4 manuals to reflect the unreleased Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. Last week, the company took it a step further and updated Galaxy Note 4 manuals for three variants including the SM-N910F, SM-N910C, SM-N910H. These seem to hint at the impending arrival of Lollipop.

When it rolls out, the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update will join not only the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update but the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update and the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update as well. Both of those updates started rolling out at the end of last month though they remain limited to the international variants in Russia.

The Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note 4 are just a few of the Lollipop updates that Samsung’s got on tap for 2015. Samsung’s also scheduled to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to the Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Alpha, and Galaxy S5 mini at some point down the road. Samsung could also opt to roll the update out to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, a device that’s now more than two years old and one that continues to see Android 4.4 KitKat updates.

I happened to stumble on the update at about 3AM..(couldn’t sleep). Just messing around and hit “check for updates” on a whim. ..there it was!
Three Verizon galaxy S5 updated without problems (is a two stage update – first one “preps” for lollipop….reboots, then you update to 5.0.
It will take a few days to get used to. …but it seems faster and more responsive than 4.4.4 did. …so far, very happy.
