Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update Pushes Ahead

While it still hasn’t hit the United States, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update continues to spread across Europe with another Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update landing for users in a very specific region.

In November, Google started pushing out its new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system for the first time. While the update started with Nexus smartphones and tablets, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update’s slowly but surely has made it to devices from other manufacturers including Samsung, the world’s largest Android producer.

Early on, Samsung remained quiet about Android 5.0 Lollipop and its release. However, in the days since, the company’s started to let details trickle out. We’ve seen Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update details emerge. We’ve seen Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update information surface. We’ve seen info arrive for the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note Edge. We’ve also seen the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update, Samsung’s first, make progress ahead of the new year.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is still very limited but it’s starting to show progress. The Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update has now reached users of the international model in Spain. The news, confirmed by Samsung update watchdog SamMobile, means that the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is now available in Poland, South Korea and Spain with more countries on the way.

Spain’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop push is for the SM-G900F, the international model. We’ve seen at least one Spanish carrier confirm the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update for next year though the carrier, Vodafone, remained mum about any of the specific details. That same carrier also confirmed a Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update for early 2015 without spelling out a specific date.

Samsung’s Lollipop updates are unpredictable and it’s not clear where the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update will head next. Samsung appears to be focused on the international model at the moment though thanks to leaks, we know that U.S. carriers are hard at work behind the scenes. It’s not clear when carriers like Sprint will roll out the software though historically, U.S. carriers haven’t been too far off the pace set by international models.

Today’s roll out comes on the heels of a massive leak from the Finnish arm of Samsung. The information seems to confirm several Android 5.0 Lollipop updates ahead of time including a Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update, the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update, and the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update. All three of those updates have been confirmed for a release in the early part of 2014.

Also included are Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for the Galaxy S5 mini, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The Galaxy Note 2 is a bit of a surprise given that the device is now more than two years old. Samsung typically keeps devices around for 24 months or so before kicking them to the curb. The Galaxy Note 2 turned two in the fall and is still getting Android 4.4 KitKat, Samsung’s older Android update.

While this information does come from a division of Samsung, it’s important to note that regional wings of the company have been wrong about Android updates in the past. Until the main mobile division of Samsung confirms these updates, they will remain in limbo. Given the age of the Galaxy Alpha and the Galaxy S5 mini, neither should be in any danger of missing out on the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

Samsung’s already confirmed Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and Samsung Galaxy S4. The company is also all but confirmed to have a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update up its sleeve. All of these updates, minus the Galaxy Note Edge update, are confirmed for the early part of next year which is now just around the corner.
