Samsung Galaxy S6 Photos Bring Rumors to Life

With just a few days to go before Unpacked 2015 in Barcelona, Samsung Galaxy S6 photos have emerged bringing Galaxy S6 rumors to life.

On March 1st, Samsung will announce the Galaxy S6, a highly anticipated successor for the Galaxy S5. In the days leading up to the Galaxy S6 launch date, we’ve seen a number of Galaxy S6 rumors and leaks emerge. Those rumors and leaks have highlighted everything from the Galaxy S6 price to the Galaxy S6 specs to the Galaxy S6 release date.

With just three days to go before it takes the stage, alleged Galaxy S6 photos have surfaced showing off many of these Galaxy S6 rumors ahead of Samsung’s announcement. Yesterday, a series of photos detailed the alleged Galaxy S6 design and today, new photos not only show off that same phone, they show off the phone next to the alleged Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge variant.

A growing thread on XDA-Developers is the source for these new alleged Samsung Galaxy S6 photos. The photos show the same unnamed device, presumed to be the Galaxy S6, in the wild though this time they show it next to a variant with a curved display that bends over both sides of the design. Galaxy S6 rumors have insisted upon two distinct variants, one regular and one similar to the Galaxy Note Edge, and these photos appear to confirm those rumors ahead of March 1st.

While it’s not clear what stage these devices are in, they depict devices that appears to employ metal, and perhaps glass, two details that have emerged time and time again in Samsung Galaxy S6 design rumors.

As we noted yesterday, the indent on the side matches up with an alleged Galaxy S6 photo-op that showed off the device’s supposed metal chassis. That leak, which emerged out of China, featured all of the port placements and openings from previous Galaxy S6 leaks.

The Galaxy S6 photos also show off a new rounded home button, something that’s been rumored several times in the past. Samsung is expected to deliver an improved touch-based fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S6, one that can better compete against the Touch ID technology on board the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

It’s also worth noting that the placement of the device’s front-facing camera matches up with the placement seen on various Galaxy S6 accessory leaks. Accessory makers have shown off a ton of Galaxy S6 accessories ahead of launch. And while they may not have the exact look of the Galaxy S6 down, they likely have many of the dimensions locked down ahead of launch.

The Galaxy S6 Edge seen in the photos appears to employ a different screen than the Galaxy Note Edge. These images show a curved screen working in conjunction with the main screen. The Galaxy Note Edge’s curved display operates on its own. A new report from Business Korea confirms some of the differences.

The publication claims that because there will be less of a curve employed by the Galaxy S6 Edge, something that’s all but confirmed by these new photos. Because the screen isn’t as “bent,” it appears that there “will be no message alarm or information storage functions owing the narrowed screen.” The report goes on to note that:

The model’s decreased curved edge and adjusted angle is said to reflect Samsung’s intention to improve the manufacturing yield of curved displays and manufacture as many products as possible.

Recent Galaxy S6 release rumors have pointed to potential Galaxy S6 supply issues at launch. They also indicate that Samsung is going to heavily promote the curved version of the Galaxy S6, something that we’ve already seen in action with the first Galaxy S6 release teasers in the United States. All three teased the curved model, not the regular model.

Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 is expected to be a significant departure from previous Galaxy S releases. The device is expected to feature a new design in addition to heavily upgraded specifications including tweaked TouchWiz software over Android 5.0 Lollipop. The company is rumored to have stripped down TouchWiz to improve performance.

The Samsung’s Galaxy S6 release date is heavily rumored for March or April and we’ve already see one U.S. carrier confirm its debut for Spring 2015. Earlier this week, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile all confirmed the Galaxy S6 release with AT&T noting that the device is expected to arrive in the Spring. Spring 2015 begins on March 20th.

Galaxy S6 release date rumors have yet to nail down a specific date though rumors have hinted at windows in late March and late April for an initial release. A more recent Galaxy S6 release rumor points to a release inside India during the second week of April after a pre-order in March.
