Samsung Galaxy S6 Specs Firming Up

The Samsung Galaxy S6 specs sheet continues to firm up ahead of the highly anticipated Galaxy S6 launch date as a new leak hints at the type of display the Galaxy S6 will have when it arrives on shelves later this year.

As we inch further and further away from the start of the new year, we’re starting to hear more and more about the supposed successor to the Samsung Galaxy S5. Samsung Galaxy S6 rumors have been heating up in recent days and they’ve started to hint at everything from the Galaxy S6 launch date to the Galaxy S6 specs.

Many of these early Galaxy S6 rumors have hinted at the Galaxy S6 specs and features like the processor, storage capacity, camera, and the display type. Today, thanks to information from Samsung’s very own website, we have a potential glimpse at the Samsung Galaxy S6 display, a spec that’s been in focus for a number of weeks now.

A possible Samsung Galaxy S6 User Agent Profile string has been discovered lurking on Samsung’s own website. The UA Profile is for an SM-G920A which has twice been confirmed as the AT&T Galaxy S6 model. AT&T’s Galaxy smartphones typically have an “A” at the end to denote the carrier. The UA Profile doesn’t tell us much about the device but it does point to a few different Galaxy S6 specs.

First, it shows that the Galaxy S6 display will likely be a Quad HD panel. Galaxy S6 rumors have pointed to 2K resolution for some time now and it appears that the Galaxy S6 will follow in the Galaxy Note 4’s footsteps and make a significant jump in screen resolution. The UA Prof doesn’t confirm a Quad HD display but it does mean one is very likely for the U.S. and for countries around the world.

It also suggests that the phone will be running an ARM11 processor though that’s probably incorrect. The Galaxy S6 rumor mill suggests that the Galaxy S6 will jump up to a 64-bit processor, either an Exynos chip or a Snapdragon 810 from Qualcomm. The device is widely expected to feature ARMv8 rather than ARM11. This is not confirmed but is considered very likely.

The Galaxy S6 display is rumored to be 5.5-inches in size, same as the LG G3 and iPhone 6 Plus, though it’s not clear how much of an increase in size we’ll see. Companies have begun thinning out the bezel size in an effort to minimize the size increase. The LG G3, for instance, isn’t all that much bigger than the 5.1-inch Samsung Galaxy S5.

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 is rumored to have a collection of high powered specifications that are expected to help it challenge top rivals like the iPhone 6, LG G3, HTC One and others. The device is said to include a 16MP or 20MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, a 5MP front-facing camera, and a new design that could offer premium design materials.

The new design is expected to include metal though it’s not clear if Samsung will encase the entire phone in metal or if the company will use hints of metal like the designs found on the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Samsung is well known for keeping its designs under wraps which means that we may not see the actual design leak until it takes the stage.

Galaxy S6 rumors also point to a curved Galaxy S6 “Edge” similar to the Galaxy Note Edge, 32GB of storage space or more, a fingerprint sensor, and a release on several U.S. carriers including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon. Samsung Galaxy S6 release rumors hint at an arrival at MWC 2015 which kicks off on March 2nd in Barcelona, Spain.
