Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Jelly Bean Update Could Be Far Off
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, which has yet to roll out to owners of the aging tablet, could be far off as Samsung has reportedly encountered issues with the update that have pushed the release to a date that’s later than its original one.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 7.7 last got a major Android update all the way back in the summer of last year. That update, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the device’s current operating system and if rumors are correct, it could be the device’s operating system for the foreseeable future.

According to SamMobile, which has been accurate with information in the past, Samsung is having problems with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, the update that would succeed Ice Cream Sandwich as the device’s operating system. Specifically, the processor doesn’t appear to be cooperating. Unfortunately, there are no specifics beyond that.
Evidently, the timing for the update is May or June though that hasn’t been confirmed and it’s possible, given the issues, that the update could be even further off than that. What this means is that Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie might be out in the open by the time the Galaxy Tab 7.7 gets Jelly Bean, something that would obviously be troubling to owners as Android 4.1 will be nearly a year old by that time.
Owners of the device in the U.S. are likely looking at a lengthy wait regardless as devices in the United States typically get their updates long after devices in other regions.
The news isn’t all bad though as the device is said to be getting some of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1’s features in the form of a Premium Suite, similar to the Premium Suite that Samsung rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy S3.
It’s unclear just what those features might be but one of them could be the heralded Multi-Window View feature that allows owners to split up the display into two sections in order to run two separate applications at the same time.

Verizon certified the ICS update for their version back in October, but if you read the Verizon forums you’ll see that this whole cycle has been a complete cluster. I JUST received the update yesterday. Many people had to physically ship their tablets back to get the update. I’m happy to have it, although it’s an ENTIRE YEAR after I bought the tab and was promised at the time that it was coming shortly. One can only hope that there’s still a chance they would certify JB someday, but I’m not holding by breath.

This is absurd… Why you’re pushing your customers to go for the ROOTING route?? I’ve been tempted ever since the CYANOGEN mods started appearing but I never took the plunge as I thought the OFFICIAL OS is what I REALLY wanted since it’ll be the COMPLETE and PURE experience.. however, NOW I am not so sure..
BTW, this is an awesome device and I’ve had this for some time.. I haven’t upgraded yet to ICS as I wanted to give 3.2 a fair chance among all the criticism that I witnessed. I also hoped that I may be able to skip ICS all together and jump directly to JB but that seems far now.. so I will definitely do the ICS upgrade now..
One final word for SAMSUNG!! Love your hardware, BUT hate you for your software updates!
