Samsung Planning Galaxy Note 12.2 With Retina Display

Published

on

Samsung is reportedly planning an even larger Galaxy Note tablet for launch later this year with a very high resolution screen. According to Korea’s ET News, the South Korean technology giant is working on a Galaxy Note 12.2 tablet. The slate will, as its name implies, have a 12.2-inch display along with a screen resolution of 2560 X 1600.

The resolution would compare well to Apple’s Retina Display screen on the fourth generation iPad, which has a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels.

The screen is reportedly being manufactured by Sharp using the IGZO technology, which will help with battery life and sharpness. IGZO screen was at one point rumored to be coming to the fourth generation iPad and the iPhone 5, but that never materialized. We saw the technology demoed at the Consumer Electronics Show and walked away pretty impressed with Sharp’s offering. It should also be noted that Samsung does have an investment in Sharp.

A Galaxy Note 12.2 may be on the way.

As with the Galaxy Note series, Samsung will likely use its S Pen active digitizer for the tablet, which itself is based on Wacom technology. The S Pen would allow for Galaxy Note 12.2 owners to write and draw on the screen while also enabling them to take advantage of unique applications centered around the S Pen.

The 12-inch display size is also rumored to be coming to a larger sized iPad tablet next year. Apple so far has not commented or announced any plans for the 12-inch iPad, nor do we have a name for the slate. Currently, Apple offers an iPad mini with a 7.9-inch display as well as a regular sized iPad with a 9.7-inch screen.

The iPad mini is rumored to be getting a refresh this fall with a higher resolution Retina Display screen. The current Galaxy Note is available with a 5.5-inch, 8-inch, and 10.1-inch display size.

Please don’t call it a Retina Display, that’a a stupid marketing term from Apple that is absolutely meaningless

I dearly want Samsung to make the Note 12.2 with a removable battery…if that is not possible how about two smaller removable batteries one working at one time and when it is used up the next one would be switched on to work the tablet while the first battery was removed and charged in an external charger and in that way the tablet would not need to be turned off for longer than a moment..or even not at all..I am sure this would be possible to do ….there just needs to be a willingness on the part of Samsung to do this.Just imagine how many people would be totally glad for this essential consideration….sales would difinitely be greater…At present I don’t want to buy a tablet because of the non removable battery issue… but if batteries in the 12.2 Note were of a removable type then I would buy that tablet like a shot…..so please all who agree please please make your words visible.Thanks.

I would like Samsung to do one thing. In vanilla Android the notification screen is pulled down from above. In their implementation the notification screen on the Note 10.1 it is pulled up from the bottom and I am forever accidentally activating it when I use the stylus. How about it Samsung?
