Samsung Promises Android 2.2 Froyo Status Updates for Galaxy S Smartphones

Published

on

With the conspiracy theory that Samsung may be holding back the Android 2.2 Froyo update for its Galaxy S smartphones, which launched with Android 2.1, in favor of pushing out newer hardware with Android 2.2 or Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Samsung has taken upon itself to clear the air. In a statement to Phonescoop, the company is setting the record straight on a number of issues related to the Android 2.2 update for the Galaxy S smartphones.

The phone-maker is saying that it is not charging carriers for the update to bring Froyo to current-generation hardware. Moreover, the phone-maker is saying that it will have more details on the status of Froyo for Galaxy S smartphones shortly.

No. Samsung is not charging carriers for Froyo updates to Galaxy S. We hope to have more detail on status shortly. Promise!

Samsung was in the hot seat before in its relationship with T-Mobile with the Behold II Android smartphone. Though T-Mobile had promised that it would be rolling out updates to newer versions of Android for smartphones in its lineup, Samsung only delivered an upgrade to Android 1.6 when Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 were available for the handset, causing some consumer backlash.

However, with the Galaxy S series, it’s nice to see Samsung proactively respond to Internet concerns, criticisms, and speculations. The phone-maker has ambitious plans to be the top phone and smartphone manufacturer and it looks like Samsung is doing the right thing here by addressing user concerns.

I don’t see where Samsung said they promised FroYo…

Anyway, check out my spin on this entire debacle.

whether Samsung is charging or not, the fact is still the same, 2.3 works on Samsung hardware, yet half a year after the release of the galaxy S line-up the Samsung product buyers are still stuck with the glitchy crap software the units launched with. Samsung has shown that their marketing group’s ability to pull buyers in, far surpasses their software designers’ abilities to keep up with the market’s expectations and demands. Samsung’s ambition to be the best will never come to fruition if they can’t even keep their loyal customers happy. I have bought Samsung products for years and have been most unhappy with their recent TV and smartphone issues. my next purchase will not have Samsung’s name on the software if I choose to go their direction again. – Epic 4G, C7000 3D Internet TV user

Samsung Epic is THE LAST Samsung smartphone for me… I have waited since the phone was first released… Samsung is just way to slow for me and another hollow statement means nothing…

I love the “Promise!” at the end of Samsung’s statement. They always say things like “rest assured, will be out soon, we’re working hard”, etc. Meanwhile the rest of the world has had Android 2.2 for like 6 months now. Don’t they realize these company statements mean less than nothing at this point after they’ve proven to be full of #### every time they promise anything. No one believes you Samsung. Just shut up and deliver the upgrade or give me my money back.

Promise and promise… why not simply take action and roll out the update… we’re all sick and tired of waiting for Samsung keeping their promises.

“However, with the Galaxy S series, it’s nice to see Samsung proactively respond to Internet concerns, criticisms, and speculations. When in actuallity samsung has only given ambigious statements as to the actual status of froyo in the us.

Froyo has been delayed for around 5 MONTHS and the only statement we get is “No. Samsung is not charging carriers for Froyo updates to Galaxy S. We hope to have more detail on status shortly. Promise!”

That’s what you call proactively responding to internet concerns? Actually that’s what I call raping users in the bum.

YET!!! Samsung it’s time to SHIT or get off the pot!!! Get Froyo updated in the next month or everybody that owns a Galaxy S phone should take theirs back to the distributor and ask for their money back !!! If you agree send Samsung an E-mail to this!!!

So that’s how to loose customers to HTC. I think Sam is sunging a toon to the con game, named “use the money first then provide service late”

What a load of crap. I’d this site getting kickbacks from Samsung?
What evidence is there that Samsung is trying to “make it right”? They have been feeding fascinate owners lies since last October.
Unless you have something other than speculation stop apologizing for this corporation
