Setting Apple Tablet Rumors Back 10 Years
Some think Rupert Murdoch’s approach to news helped drive the business into the doldrums it now finds itself in, some don’t. This isn’t really about that, but I’m just not sure what to think here. Granted, I’m an Inker when it comes to Tablet PCs, but I think the messenger might have just killed the message here and set Apple Tablet rumors and Tablet PCs back about 10 years or so. I’m not sure if the producer or the talking head is to blame here, but goodness gracious folks, don’t you think someone would have some facts available here?
You can watch this (ahem) Business News reporter talk about the untapped market for handwriting on computers at Gizmodo and how Apple hasn’t tapped into that market. I think I’m glad I can’t embed the video here.

iTouch and Newton? That’s all that’s going on in touch/pen computing :-)

even though these folks are obviously not only poorly informed, but obviously stupid, i’ll give them the benefit of the doubt:
when she means ‘untapped’ she means that, like oil (in the past), tablets exist, but that no manufacturer has really harnessed that resource yet–it’s just sitting there below the surface.
of course, only apple can tap such a resource. they’re so innovative. MS is the evil maker of software to keep us in slavery and bugginess.
that’s what this stupid bimbo really is trying to say. she just couldn’t express herself because the stupid got in the way.

@Ben, yeah, that’s exactly the impression I got watching this too.

I’m not sure what you meant by the doldrums. While the rest of the news industry is in the toilet, Fox has been doing extremely well. And the WSJ is also one of the few newspapers (maybe even the only one) that actually has seen at least scant increases in circulation, compared with great losses at other papers.
@Ben, I agree.

+1 to T Man. Fox consistently gets better ratings than all of its competitors – combined. Warner is usually pretty good about keeping his liberal bias out of his GBM posts but I guess the temptation was too much.
Personally I don’t see what the big deal about this video is. I’ve heard TONS of people call the iPod Touch an “iTouch” and so what if it wasn’t the kind of description you’d get out of Walt Macberg… sometimes the ubernerds out there forget that the rest of the world doesn’t see technology through the half inch thick spectacles that the rest of us do.
