Not one to be left out of the emerging 720p HD display in the high-end market segment, Sony Ericsson is rumored to be working on an XPERIA smartphone with such a spec for Japan initially with a worldwide roll out soon after. The device, codenamed Nozomi, will be the smartphone-maker’s international flagship that will succeed the XPERIA Arc and will feature a 4.3-inch 720p display that can render 1280 X 720 pixels natively.

It’s unclear if the device will feature a dual-core processor like some of the rumored competitors with a 720p HD display, including the HTC Vigor and the Samsung Nexus Prime. The Nozomi is said to sport a 1.4 GHz processor of unknown number of core(s).

In the past, there was rumors of an XPERIA Duo Sony Ericsson device. It’s unclear on what the status of that device is, and if the Nozomi is a dual-core device, if it will be released with the XPERIA Duo branding.

My guess is all the 720p HD screen Android devices slated for release are in prep for the ICS. As soon as Google announce ICS these devices will be quickly upgraded from Android 2.3.4 to ICS 4.0.
