Sony Joins The Netbook Ranks
Looks like Sony has decided to get in the game and join the great Netbook race. The VAIO W contains most of the usual Netbook specs and will sell for $499. While that’s on the upper end of the Netbook price range, it is certainly a lower retail price for Sony who loves the high end.
The screen resolution will be 1366×768 which isn’t your typical Netbook resolution although we’ve seen it before. The keyboard is 86% of full size and since this is considered a home product there won’t be any 3G options. 3 cell and 6 cell battery options will be available. If you’ve still got some Sony Memory Sticks lying around, you’ll be able to use them in the combined SD/Memory Stick slot. Look for availability in August.
Who knows what this device is really like at this point, but I have to say from what I’m reading, it doesn’t sound like it will out match the existing competition.
