Sony Xperia S Jelly Bean Update Rolling Out in Late May

Published

on

The highly anticipated and oft rumored Sony Xperia S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update won’t be rolling out any time soon but it appears that at the very least, it will roll out by the end of May, this, according to new information provided by Sony itself.

Sony, as promised, has issued information about several upcoming Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates with the Sony Xperia S being one of the lucky devices to receive information. Unfortunately for owners, the news isn’t good. Rumors have insisted that the Xperia S Jelly Bean update would be out soon, previously a wing of Sony said that it would be out in March, but it looks like it won’t be out until at least the end of May.

The Sony Xperia S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update won't come until May, at the earliest.

The Sony Xperia S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update won’t come until May, at the earliest.

According to Sony, it will begin its latest round of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates with the Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia Edual which will receive their updates sometime this week with carriers rolling out the software to their models later. Android manufacturers typically start with unbranded models and leave it to carriers to roll out their versions of updates.

Sony also shed light on several other Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates saying that the Sony Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia Ion, and Xperia Arco S will be getting their Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates starting in late May. No specific dates were mentioned and it’s unclear which devices will be first in line to get the update or if it will roll them all out by the end of May.

This means that at the very earliest, Sony Xperia S owners will be waiting until May for the update to arrive though it’s possible that it could take Sony longer to issue the update. We imagine that it will start with unbranded models as well which means that owners of carrier-locked models will likely be waiting until summer for the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software.

Android 4.1 is a huge upgrade over Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the current OS for these devices, as it brings a number of new features to the table including a new user smoother interface, Google Now, improved multitasking and widgets, improvements to the Camera app and more.

This is ridiculous now !!! …. Rolling out in march, than rolling out end of march than rolling out in two weeks than rolling out in days then rolling out another day… And now rolling out in end of next month?????? This i assume we keep talking Android 4.1 still, when all other phones been updated to android 4.2 by now NEVER SONY AGAIN …. that enough. just better get an old Nokia 3310 …. “What is the computer for??? To solve problems, that you haven’t got without a computer….”

I think the Xperia S/SL are receiving poor support because they are the “biggest” and latest phone to come with the Sony Ericsson name. The split could also be the reason for the release of so many new phone models and such. For Sony, supporting these phones is just the headache of fulfilling the promised support agreement. They have new policies, programmers, ethics and overall business models now and they would very much like to leave the old Sony Ericsson era behind already.

Xperia Z is their flagship phone.

Who cares? Sony Xperia S is the stepping stone of Sony after the splitup with Ericcson, and is Sony’s 2012 Flagship. We should be getting the latest damn updates at an earlier date because we supported Sony by buying and trusting it’s first flagship phone.

Sony Service sucks! Update in March, then late March, then April, now END OF MAY! Then 4.1 is nearly ONE YEAR OLD!
I had a Sony X10 years ago. EXACTLY THE SAME UPDATE-SH**! I think Sony had learned. No, they have not. The only possibility ist that we costumers do not buy Sony anymore. They will only learn if they get no money from us.
    Sad but true. Sony… goodbye!

I seem to remember them not being specific about when this would go live. They learned from last year promising ICS at the end of January to 2011 devices, when it actually took until Summer. So this “delay”, which isn’t actually a delay at all, is about what I expected.

I can’t understand why some people can’t wait for these things. If it’s that much trouble, then buy something with what you want already on it when it’s released.

I’d rather they thoroughly test it before release, than pushing something out with fundamental bugs in it like Apple seem to do despite their long and subtle OS development process.

I have it for only a few months and the paint on the USB cover is peeling off. I email customer service and they gave me a case number to resolve my concern. I have to make a call someone over the phone and guess what the tech support say. SONY will not warranty any cosmetic due to normal use. Why they told me to call them then? Waste my TIME!!!!

Take it easy people… I’m sure Sony is trying its best to make the JB release for the Xperia S as bugfree as possible. It takes time, for sure. My 4.0.4 system is working smoothly. Looking forward to the actual update.

I do not bother with Sony anymore, I have long since sold my Xperia S since the 5th time they promised and verified a release date, if this news is verified it will then be the 8th. :/
