Possible Sony Xperia Z Successor Leaked with 4.8-Inch 1080P Display

A new leak from Xperia Blog details what could be Sony’s next flagship Xperia smartphone to follow the recently released Xperia Z.

The rumored phone carries the model number C670X, and may include a 4.8-inch 1080p display, making it a bit smaller than the 5-inch Xperia Z. While the Xperia Z uses a Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, the C670X could use the new quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 clocked at 1.8GHz like the HTC One.

The Sony C670X will have a 13MP rear-facing camera, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage and will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean according to the leak.Sony-Xperia-C670X

An image provided with the leak looks a lot like the Sony Xperia Z, though Xperia Blog points out Sony used the image in the set up guide for the recent flagship phone. The phone in the image is definitely not the Xperia Z, but that doesn’t mean it’s the C670X, either.

If the image is of the new phone, the phone will have a earpiece that looks similar to the Xperia Z, and will otherwise look like a black slab from the front. The image shows a phone with no physical or capacitive buttons, just like other recent Sony phones.

It’s not clear if the phone in the image uses a lot of glass like the Xperia Z, or if it will use an aluminum casing.

The rumored Sony C670X will likely launch sometime this summer. A summer release would put the phone on store shelves after Google I/O where Google may announce the next version of Android, Key Lime Pie. In that scenario the Sony C670X will be one version of Android behind at release.

A summer release would also give the similarly specced HTC One more time on store shelves. Sony will also have to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S4, which Samsung will launch in two weeks on March 14.
