Lately all the attention in the smartphone market has been on the iPhone 6, Galaxy S5, and the upcoming Nexus 6, but Sony has a brand new flagship smartphone that was just confirmed for more US buyers today. The new Sony Xperia Z3 will not only be available from Verizon, but it’s also coming to T-Mobile later this month.

T-Mobile teased the new phone was coming soon, but now it’s official. Sony’s previous releases in the United States have come months later than international markets, and usually are lagging behind in the hardware and software aspect of things, but the new Z3 looks to complete with the best of the best.

With a big 5.2-inch screen and stunning camera smartphones like the Moto X, Galaxy S5, and even the iPhone 6 will have to compete with this impressive phone headed to both Verizon and now T-Mobile USA.

Sony hasn’t been a very popular smartphone manufacturer in the United States, focusing on other regions while the smartphone race in the US has been rather tight, but it looks like more and more of their premium and fully waterproof smartphones are coming soon.

Starting Wednesday, October 15th, the new Sony Xperia Z3 will be available from T-Mobile’s online store, and will officially be released in stores nationwide starting October 29th. This is just in time to take on the rumored November 1st release of the new Nexus 6.

So what does Sony’s latest flagship smartphone have to offer? Quite a lot actually. Again, they haven’t been too popular in the US, but that’s about to change if the new Z3 has anything to say about it. Equipped with a large 5.2-inch 1080p full HD display, a quad-core processor, and a stunning 20.7 megapixel rear camera.

Sony’s new Z3 is fully dust and water-proof with an IP68 rating, not the water “resistant” IP67 rating of the Galaxy S5, and has some other neat features too. Powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM, the camera and large 5.2-inch screen work wonderfully together and are powered by a large 3,100 mAh battery.

As a comparison, the Galaxy S5 is 2,800 mAh, while the LG G3 comes in around 3,000 mAh for the battery. Meaning with a decent sized 5.2-inch HD screen and a big battery users can expect upwards of two days of usage on a single charge.

The 20.7 megapixel rear camera can record in full 4k video, and has a 25mm wide-angle lens for excellent photos and video. Sony’s new Z3 runs Android 4.4 KitKat, and will only cost $26.25 a month using the T-Mobile UnCarrier contract-free plans. That’s for a full 24 months, or buyers can choose to get it outright and completely unlocked for $630. It certainly isn’t cheap, but has a lot to offer compared to the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, and some other premium smartphones available today.

This marks two US carriers to offer the new phone, and it’s possible we could see AT&T or others join the party in the near future. Sony’s software changes are light and keep close to the stock Google experience, but have a few enhancements, and overall are excellent smartphones we don’t see to often in the United States.

Finally, T-Mobile claims those who pre-order on the 15th may get it shipped out early, well ahead of the official October 29th release date. This isn’t something we see carriers announce often, so order one today and expect a fancy new smartphone in the near future.
