Speck FabShell Burton iPhone 5 Case Review

Published

on

The Speck FabShell Burton is a great looking iPhone 5 case with distinct Burton styling that looks ready for the slopes or in the office on Monday.

Speck partners with Burton’s team so these cases will match the 2013 Burton apparel, but the real reason this case is a winner is the fit and finish.

The Speck FabShell Burton is similar to the FabShell Luxe iPhone case we enjoyed, but uses bright patterns and fabric in place of leather.

Speck shared the Raw Edge/ Pomodoro and the Ballpoint Reid Plaid/Harbor iPhone 5 cases with Gotta Be Mobile, and after using them for the last month they’ve earned a permanent rotation in our iPhone 5 cases.

The Speck FabShell Burton iPhone 5 case uses fabric to match Burton styles.

The FabShell Burton iPhone 5 case is made of a single piece of soft touch rubber that offers protection from drops and bumps. This is no OtterBox iPhone 5 case, but it did protect the iPhone 5 from several drops of 3-5 feet to carpeted and tile surfaces. Speck glues the colorful Burton fabric to this one hard shell. The colors of the rubber match the fabric to complete the package.

The FabShell Burton includes a Burton logo on the back.

The Burton fabric looks great, especially the blue-green plaid with orange Burton highlights on the side and back of the case. This is real fabric, not a print on plastic, so users also get a great textile feel from the fabric. The fabric remains intact after a month of heavy use, but the small orange Burton logo on the back of the case is starting to peel on one corner. The same issues is not present on the red FabShell Burton, so it may be a one of issue. Speck offers a one-year warranty if there are any issues.

Speck FabShell Burton iPhone 5 case.

The FabShell Burton fits the iPhone 5 snug, but is easy to remove. There are cutouts for the camera orientation lock, Lightning connector and headphones. Speck covered the power and volume buttons in rubber, which offers easier control than a cutout. The case doesn’t add significant bulk or width to the iPhone 5.

There is no screen protection with the Speck FabShell Burton, but the case does offers a small ridge that will prevent the screen from touching a tablet while placed face down, and may offer limited protection if dropped.
