Speech Recognition Updates

Hi everyone! We have several interesting events that will occur in the near future with speech recognition. Beginning September 20, several of our staff writers including Warner, Craig and Truc have agreed that they will begin to use Vista speech recognition or Dragon NaturallySpeaking professional version 10. I am very excited to see how well they do. I don’t think any of them have any significant experience with speech recognition. I am hoping that their beginning involvement with the speech recognition programs will entice some of you to also try speech recognition.

Do any of you have questions that you would like them to think about when they are using speech? All three staff writers will use different configurations with microphones and tablet computers. Truc will also be using a specialized program called Voice Power. This program should help ease the learning curve when using speech recognition.

I also will have an opportunity to try a new program. Nuance software has sent me a copy of Dragon Medical 10. I had hoped that I would be able to begin reporting about this new version of Dragon already. Unfortunately, when I went to install the program I recognized I did not have serial numbers. I sent an e-mail to my contact person so I should be able to install this program in the next several days and begin reporting. I will be speaking with the expert from Dragon Medical so if you have any questions that you would like me to ask them please  leave a message regarding this.

We hope that you, our readers, will follow this series. Many people seem hesitant to try speech recognition. They either fear that the accuracy is not high, or that they may be considered unusual for talking with their computer. After seeing our three writers use speech recognition for a period of time we hope you  begin to see how exciting and functional this product truly is.
